RE: Atheism on the rise in the middle east

I would like to caution everyone here on two points:
1. Don't get your hopes up about a secular Middle East within our lifetimes. Lunatic mobs are stronger than most people think. And,
2. Never EVER accept a cookie from Vladimir Putin.

That's why I said, you should try to reflect on what you said - if that approach is actually helping things along. That line of thinking is exactly what I meant by Western stupidity.

There are actually some quite daring secular movements in the Middle East, people living under austere Islamism (mostly Muslims themselves) are the first victims of it and the most aggressively against it. Far more brave shit than most of us cowards in the West have done to combat growing extremism in the West.
The problem is that these secular movements are not just silenced by the Islamists with their usual threats and violence. They're also silenced and erased by the liberal cultural relativists in the West, this lot who defend the barbarism under "well this is their culture, respect it, don't provoke". It's not the culture many young people in the Middle East want, but we're not showing the social solidarity with them we should be showing most of the time. Not military or political intervention, I'm with you guys on that, it doesn't help, but at least some social solidarity and not defending and supporting these regimes we wouldn't ever want for ourselves.

"Ironically like the nativist far-Right, which despises multiculturalism, but benefits from its ideas of difference to scapegoat the other and to promote its own white identity politics; these postmodernists, leftists, feminists and liberals also use multiculturalism, to side with the oppressor, by demanding respect and tolerance for oppression characterised as 'difference', no matter how intolerable." - Maryam Namazie

exactly, those people trying to be politically correct all the time, and sometimes it's doing more harm than good.
I hate the way people criticize Bill maher and call him a bigot for speaking his own mind about Islam.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. That's what I'm arguing for. Every western intervention makes things worse, since the West either supports their opressors or removes leaders from power, who are popular with the people. Let them find their own way. These countries have a very young population and that can cut both ways. They're often in opposition to their leaders and the old ideas, but it's quite natural that resentment grows when some outside powers are interfering. And resentment can be exploited by dubious forces.
The most catastrophic interference is the removal of Mossadegh from power in Iran, since that country would have taken a completely different path than it did under the west's puppet and the ensuing backclash. Supporting insurgents without knowing what they stand for is an equally bad idea as is shown in Syria.

We need more people like Bill Maher. I find it fucking stupid with the double standard.
Sam Harris and Bill Maher were speaking their mind on Islam and Here goes Ben Affleck with
his own brand of stupidity trying to defend Islam. What Sam Harris and Bill Maher were speaking the truth
on it and were unneededly blasted as bigots because they were speaking the truth. Islam and religion
in general is not helping the people of the middle east they are too uncivilized and Iran of all places do not
need t go nuclear because it would really fuck up everything.
