I, and most others would chat with a polite coherent theist any day, than with an arrogant self centred atheist...
 you!

It depends on the theist:
I try to approach every new interaction with the same modicum of respect, and whether that respect grows or vanishes is entirely dependent on the person. That being said it usually hits the highway around here. We tend to get a slew of nitwits and salesmen.

I was just talking to my friends about how we have a new asshole atheist on the board, but we also have a new Catholic on the forum whom I think I could be friends with IRL. (Not naming user names, but you're one of the two, C_L)

You have invested in the community. We still disagree on points of theology, obvi.
But you are involved in the other conversations, have been very nice, and have been accepted. I think Minimalist even responded to one of your posts without an expletive. That's big stuff.
Yeah. You're even growing on me.

You are going to destroy your reputation posting like that. You don't want everyone to think you are an old softie, do you?

He was still being reserved when he said that because he doesn't want to reveal the extent of it. The truth is he knows he likes me lots.

I, for one, was going to report the post because I was certain that someone had hijacked Min's account.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Glad to know I wasn't the only one with that knee-jerk reaction.
