Why demand a blood sacrifice at all, for that matter?

The logic seems to be that SOMEBODY had to be punished for all that sin, but this begs yet another question: why? What prevents a perfectly benevolent god from forgiving without blood being spilled? I can do that. I do it all the time. Why can I, a flawed human, forgive someone essentially on a whim, while the perfectly benevolent and loving god of the universe has to shed blood?

If it's because it has to be that way whether he likes it or not, then he is not all-powerful, for he can't do something that even I can do and is somehow bound by a set of rules that do not bind me. If it's because he chooses for it to be that way, then he is not perfectly benevolent, for a perfectly benevolent god would simply forgive without demanding anything.

But again, why? God made everything, including the rules, right? That means he's the one who decided that "perfect justice" means spilling blood. He could have just as easily created a system where good works, plant offerings, or any number of things could have atoned for sin.

Why would a perfectly loving, benevolent, forgiving being define "perfect justice" as death and torture for eternity for even the smallest infraction? If he chose that system, then he is not perfectly loving and benevolent. If he is beholden to that system, then he is not all-powerful.

I don't think that many Christians really believe that their god is omnipotent and omniscient. Science does not claim to know everything nor can it demand worship. Scientist don't make claim that following science will lead to eternal life either.

If Christians make a claim that their sentiment being who is all powerful and all knowing is a just mythological figure then non Christians will judge him by his actions in the Christian holy book.

Christians claim that their god has a lot of omni attributes. Not only is he powerful but he is the most powerful being in the universe. He isn't just smart, he knows everything. Atheist take Christians at their word and expect the mythology to at least be consistent in its own world but it isn't. When a non Christian points out the flaws in the religion, Christians feel like their faith is under attack so they lash out or get defensive.

I believe the idea of eternal fire torture is actaully not the only view of hell. Some say that hell is where the wicked go to learn the error of their ways until they understand what they did wrong. Others say that you go to hell to be consumed by the fire and you soul forever gone. The current view however is the strongest because it appeals to the greatest amount of fear from the common person and so is the best instument to use in converting. Also I read somewhere that for the longest time hell was merely a conceptual state of mind until someone thought of the idea of using it as a real place to scare people. It works well for a third of the population apparently. So let's go die in glorious battle and go to Valhala instead or is it Sto-vo-kor .

Well, no...there have been various views and definitions of hell and hell-like realms throughout human history, just as humans have made up various heavens, gods, and other things that cause weather or go bump in the night to explain away their fear of the unknown instead of killing that fear by making the unknown known.
