I went a couple of years ago and remember driving by as they are on the shoulder with their horse and buggy... their numbers i think are declining (who could resist iphones and flat screen tv's with PS4's lol) but they are trying to maintain their crazy retarted community...
I have a couple of customers who are amish which is annoying cause they don't email... i have to call a community phone or dial their "shanty" phone line in hopes one is near enough to pick up if i need to talk to them...
on another note, they're finding loopholes left and right to use modern tech... they have their phones in shanty's now (which before you couldnt have a phone) they're taking busses to trade shows, half of the menonites drive and have electricity.. its almost a joke at this point.. They have a freaking TV show for CHRISTS sake! lol they're not allowed to be photographed but their on TV!?!
and now that i've mentioned menonites, lets throw in a Hitchens joke... Why did the amish girl get shunned from the community... 2 menonite... lol
So to be fair, there are different levels of religiousity amoungst different amish groups, just like with everyone else. Not all of them are forbidden cars and electricity. Out of curiosity, do they live by any alternative sacred texts.
Or just word word of mouth/tradition?

As far as I know it's just a very strange variation on protestantism, and their own interpretation on the bible. I have Amish relatives actually on my fathers side although they are very distant and I've never met them.

It would be fun to work on some tourism publicity for the town of Cum.
Come to Cum but don't cum too soon!

Pretty much. In 1984, they committed (amongst other felonies) what is considered the first, and largest bioterror attack on US soil in a failed attempt to control the ballot in Wasco County, Oregon.
That's pretty cray-cray.

We have a Possum Kingdom lake here in Texas, west of Fort Worth.

This is in Michigan, and while I'm not sure of the origin of the name, nowadays they use it as a promotional tool. It's not uncommon around here to see someone wearing a shirt that says, "I went to Hell, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" or something of that nature.
