But I won’t go out of my way to be disrespectful. This sort of thing does give atheism a negative image.

Yes it is.

We all have to be so careful not to offend the muslims or upset their delicate sensibilities

while on the other hand they use their democratic rights to spew hatred and threats at all and sundry.

At least the xtians don't threaten to kill you making fun of their fake godboy.

We have one muslim halfwit(sorry, iman) in Sydney(his name escapes me atm) who does nothing

but slander and denigrate the country that was gracious enough to let him live here.

Yet he demands to be treated with the respect that he refuses to accord to us.

Well, fuck him too.

Radical Muslims threatened South Park creators, forcing them to censor the word "Muhammad" as well as any visual confirmation of the religious figure.

I saw the episode, their 201st, and it was a huge let down.

We need to seriously stop this shit. Ironically this is a religion of peace and tolerance.

Honestly, I managed to find a copy online briefly, and I thought that, in conjunction with the previous episode, it was truly a crowning moment of awesome for the series, censorship and the alarming levels of difficulty I had finding it aside.

You know what, i'm offended, i'm offended that American television in the year 2010 is dictated by militant muslims. I'm offended that any religion can fearmonger it's way into censoring television shows. I'm offended that some fucking pussies who worship a clearly homosexual half hebrew ass make rules concerning what a nation with nothing to do with them a thousand miles away watches.

Do you want to know the kicker though? Pull back all of the layers, remove all of the stigma's and illusions and you realize that this isn't new. Christians have been doing this for the past century. No nudity, can't say the F word, make a movie about some little girl masturbating with a crucifix and there will be protests in the streets. The only difference is that now instead of it being a "moral obligation" it is a response to fear. We a nation of free people are forced to bow before the tyranny not of another nation, not of a ruling party, but of a small minority of pussyass terrorist cockbags who threaten violence as penance for disrespect. Fuck them, and fuck Islam. We've taken this sensitivity bullshit for too long already. I do not care about hurting anyone's feelings. If I want to watch Mary shit blood, a small 8 year old get mutilated every week, or goatfucking Muhammed himself be a punchline for 30 minutes per week on television programming that I purchase through my cable provider, I should be able to, without guilty conscience, without fear, and without wanting to blow up a few shanties in some sandtrap shithole half a world away.

Fuck religion.

"In our youth, we lacked the maturity, the decency to create gods better than ourselves so that we might have something to aspire to. Instead we are left with a host of deities who were violent, narcissistic, vengeful bullies who reflected our own values. Our gods could have been anything we could imagine, and all we were capable of manifesting were gods who shared the worst of our natures."-Me

"Atheism leaves a man to sense, to philosophy, to natural piety, to laws, to reputation; all of which may be guides to an outward moral virtue, even if religion vanished; but religious superstition dismounts all these and erects an absolute monarchy in the minds of men." – Francis Bacon

Firstly, I am an academic antitheist. That means I affirm the negative influence of religion which stems from cultural observations etc … from an academic perspective, and not merely a few isolated incidences which don't even represent the worst of Islam!

Quote:Most religious beliefs don't deserve respect. The things that people do under the guise of religion is absolutely sickening.

I am not talking about ‘respect’ at all.

I don't award any religion respect from criticism. If I believe there is something fundamentally immoral & wrong with it, then I shall express those sentiments irrespective of a hurt feelings.

Having said that, I won’t go out of my way to disrespect people. This is very different from what I said above. I give religion (as a subject/theme) no respect and immunity from criticism and judgments. But going out of your way to insult PEOPLE is simply wrong. Perhaps it is the way I have been brought up, but I wouldn’t go into a Mosque and puke in the middle of it etc … and that has nothing to do with my beliefs. You’ll find Dawkins, and Hitchens etc … share my sentiments on this point.

I am not talking about offending people.

I believe it is a right to be offended. A right I will fight for.

I am talking about going out of your way to insult people. Instead of criticising Islam (as a religion), some people feel it is allowed or acceptable to go around insulting and disrespecting people on the basis of their belief.

You can say whatever you want about Islam and religion, but if you want to insult people then don't go around debating under the atheism umbrella!

I have pointed out in the posts above the distinction between being

respectful
respecting

If I was to have a debate with a Muslim on an Islamic theological point. I would execrise my "right to offend" but I would also be respectful towards. For instance, I would shake his hand. There is a big difference between being critical of Islam (not caring whether people have had their feelings hurt) and going out of your way to insult people.

Was this directed at me?

I think you should be offended. Nobody is talking that away from you! In fact, I think being offended is a sign of a healthy society.

Sorry Fluke, but the fundie muslims have no respect for us,

thus they will get none in return.

When they show respect for others not of their ilk I will reconsider.

And don't come into MY country and tell me I should conform to your ways.(This is not meant at you Fluke)

If they don't like the ways of my country they are free to fuck off back to their own.
Religion is the excuse people use to be able to parade around their intolerance, hatred, prejudice and wilful ignorance

and say that it is "the will of god"

I see Fluke...I did not realise I was speaking to an apologetic politician.

The thing is we ARE focusing on the FUNEMENTALIST:- MUSLIM, CHRISTIAN, JEW, NAZI, KLUKLUXKLAN, BUDDHIST, HINDU, RIGHT TO LIFERS (add nauseum) here.

I thought this was understood??

Your 'RADICALS' will NOT debate with you because they are insecure in their faith and as such you will NOT get to feel all superior and warm and fuzzy and shake their hand cos you will be dead.

Really! Some people have themselves on and you are one of them Fluke!!

Keep Dreaming!

Hmm, there wasn't a mention of fundamentalists before ... but the problem isn't with them but their religion!

Is this addressing my post to you?

Am I "an apologetic politician" (whatever that means!) simply because I was brought up not to go around insulting people? I thought this was what we hated about religion?

Yes you silly fool it WAS.

The subject was radical Islam and it's fundie Imams interfering with criticism of their religion thru comedy and media.

The garbage you espouse smacks of Apologetic Political correctness.
Which is unhelpful and has CAUSED the current issue with the posted article.

At no point was anyone wishing to threaten ordinary people of whatever religious persuasion.

Are you sure you were brought up to apologise for your existence/ belief system because you don't want to insult people??

I am secure in myself enough to realise that no one can offend me....Unless I wish it to be so.

Having said that ...leaves me free to speak my mind. I this upsets YOU then it is YOUR problem NOT mine.

Which leads neatly into the topic...If the "Muslims" whoever the fuck "they" are are offended then they don't have to watch!!

And anyway what ARE they doing watching South Park in the FIRST Place???
