"The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us..." should we be grateful?

Take a good, hard look at that placard in the middle. Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you - it really does say "I'd rather have a dead child than a gay child".

Like you, I've never met anyone who openly says such things; and for their own sake they'd better be praying like shit that it stays that way.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Do the Westboro Baptist Church nuts change their views when people make fun of them?  Did people respect the views of the flat earthers?  Embrace your insanity and delusions.  They are yours.  Take pride in them.  Love them.  Cherish them.  They are what make you, you.

Lol, this is the second time I've been compared to the KKK on these forums. As you see, I'm not going ballistic. Shy
Did you miss the other comparisons?

As it says in Isaiah 66:4 (NKJV) = So will I choose their delusions,
And bring their fears on them;
Because, when I called, no one answered,
When I spoke they did not hear;
But they did evil before My eyes,
And chose that in which I do not delight.”

You're being very sly here.

You know full well what he means but are insistant on playing dumb, just like you did with that video I posted. Christians do say gay people are vile. Christians do promote many barbaric views. Just because you see yourself as one of the ones who cherry picks the nice bits about their faith, doesn't mean your faith is all roses and chocolate. To come back to the video I posted, the point of it is that it's not the peaceful, free loving majority that are the (main) problem. It's the rare few, who do hold the 'extreme' views that are the ones who go out doing fucked up things.

But here's what you keep ignoring. It's people like you, who bury their head in the sand and pretend everything about their religion is loving and peaceful, that are enablers for all those other fucks to do wrong. The bottom line is your religion, and the catholic church especially, are responsible for god awful atrocities, that are still going on today. And you simply saying "not every christian" is irrelevant.

I really don't know what you wanted to insinuate to me with that video, or how it countered anything I said.

Again, you are mass generalizing a group that consists of 2.5 billion people. It's like saying "Men rape women. Men do barbaric things." Well, yeah... some of them. Few of them. But that is still a rash generalization of all men.

And I'm not picking anything about my faith. This is what my faith teaches about gay people themselves and how to treat them:

"They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided." -CCC

Nothing in there about them being vile. If a Catholic thinks gays are vile, that is their own mind. Not Catholic teaching.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

No, it's not that. It's that they're wrong. You keep talking like this is an equivalent thing. Oh I have my beliefs and you have yours. No, it isn't like that. Fact is, if one of my friends believed in bullshit, I would call them out on it every single time they brought it up. I wouldn't pester them incessantly, it's not exactly top of my to do list, but if I was actually friends with someone who believed in god, and I respected them, I'd absolutely call them out and I'd have no qualms being mean about it. Then again, I don't think I have any friends

Fixed that for you (my underline).

Seriously though it all depends on how you went about it.  If you seriously place yourself and your appraisal of what is true above that of your 'friends', it would seem that you haven't even granted them the status of "peer" let alone "friend".

Don't you get it though Stim? It doesn't matter because CL isn't like that.

Again, I am thankful I have never met any of these radical minorities.

There's your problem right there.  Humility.  We're not used to that in our AF theists.  Try being an assertive ass hat instead.  See how that goes.

Haha, maybe I should give it a shot! Wink

Great. You didn't say that at first and it sure didn't sound like it. Probably because 'be kind' *isn't* an opinion.

She does, she says an awful lot without saying anything at all.

Sorry you feel that way. I feel like I've clarified my thinking for you quite thoroughly, so I'm not sure what I could have done differently. Do you have any other questions?

Right on, nice way to misrepresent my quote.

Quote:Seriously though it all depends on how you went about it.  If you seriously place yourself and your appraisal of what is true above that of your 'friends'

Oh come the fuck on dude. It's not just myself and my appraisal. It's the entire scientific world's appraisal. This was my entire fucking point. The laws of physics do not account for a man returning from the dead, or turning water to wine, or parting seas, or causing plagues. I'd say the same to you as I would to my friends, grow up. Likewise a tooth fairy existing is equally as unlikely. But if you're telling me you'd ignore the fact your "friend" would be stupid enough to believe such tripe, then I'm the one who should be questioning how much you value your "friends".

Quote:it would seem that you haven't even granted them the status of "peer" let alone "friend".

To your limited understanding, yes.
