Where did I say otherwise.

I simply said you're stupid for expecting it, and have fucked up priorities for being so outraged that a bunch of scummy people have egg on their face IMO.

Nothing erases rationality more thoroughly than a broken heart.
There are a lot vengeful smiles in this thread. :-)

You said I have no right or expectation to privacy on the web.  I actually do, ensconced in the 14th amendment and pursuant to state and and federal law regarding the release of personal and financial information.  It's not naivety, I -know- as well as you, that shit I put on the web gets out there.  That's probably why I wouldn't look for some strange on a website, eh?  It's why I don't have a facebook page.  That doesn't change that what was done was illegal, and that better precaution should have been taken, that none of us should revel in their plight, however deserved we might perceive it to be, and that none of us (as in we americans, I don't know wtf yall have in place) actually "sign away" any right to protection under law simply by joining a website.

I have -american- priorities, whereby I defend those I might fucking loathe -on principle-.  Otherwise, my principles are as useless as tits on a boar. I'm outraged not by what they've done, people have been doing it for centuries...so don't give me some spiel about naivety, I'm not outraged at the fact they got hacked.... - it happens...I'm outraged that peoples moral biases (which I share with them......) have absolutely run over their sense of civic solidarity. They seem to be perfectly fine with people getting shit on, provided they are in the moral "out" group. This is disturbing...on an atheist forum (which is where you come in, commie , not being an american, you should still understand this perfectly well as an atheist). As I said at the very start...replace "helps married people cheat" with "helps gay people meet".

Sometimes I think I wasted my time serving for these fuckers I call my fellow americans. Still love em though, for whatever reason, lol.

Yes. Every one of them. You think people who go onto a website for affairs aren't scum?

I'm not that judgmental. People join for all sorts of reasons. Put things in context, and be a bit more forgiving.

You may have all sorts of "rights."  But expectations are a different matter.  If you drive your car to NY, and park it in Manhattan, and leave the doors unlocked and your key in the ignition, you have the "right" to not have your car stolen if you leave it legally parked for a week.  But you are a fucking moron if you expect it to be there when you return a week later.

The same idea applies to actions online.  You may have all sorts of "rights," but the reality is you have no real privacy online.  Just like your car is not safe if you leave it parked in a big city with the doors unlocked and the key in the ignition and leave it for a week in a legal parking spot on the street.

As for the Ashly Madison site, who has said that hacking it is, or even should be, legal?  I do not recall reading any posts making such a claim.  The reality is, sites get hacked.  That influences the decisions that people make when they do things online.  At least, it influences decisions of people who do not have shit for brains.

As before, that there are people willing to break our laws does nothing to change either my rights or my expectations thereof.  As before, that people excuse or ameliorate the group the breaches both, or take satisfaction in that breach on grounds of the perceived moral failings of the victim is disgusting and un-american. That a victim is a moron is more of the same. Does that matter? No, it does not..even morons (like the "immoral") have both the right and the expectation of equal protection. I know, I know...you didn't say that they didn't......you only intimated it, implied it, offered it up as though it had any bearing.....

There's just no upside to this hack. Pretty sure if I called those cheated on spouses the morons with naive expectations I'd get the coals..lol. I mean, after all, why not feel shadenfreude on that count...there's a group of morons that got had, and probably deserved it, perhaps they had the right to the terms of their contract but not the expectation.....boo hoo, no sympathy....etc etc etc.

That I have to keep repeating myself on this -exceedingly simple principle- is fucking depressing. To what end, in any case...to be able to demonstrate their hypocrisy? From where I sit this is the tiniest revelation, not required in any sense to show and take satisfaction in that singular fact. That these folks are unfaithful has an almost humanizing effect for me, it makes them -less- like the cunts they are and more like the rest of us. I wouldn't tolerate people outing gays (or bdsm junkies, or swingers, or atheists....or) for the same reason that this (and peoples tacit acceptance of it, and constant hand wringing "oh but I didn't say exactly -that-" excusing of it) is, to me, intolerable. I think that some folks in this thread...just like the cheaters outed....need to find their shame, and that takes a little bit of the wind out of the sails of satisfaction on count of hypocrisy, imo.

Hillary's e-mail server ain't fucking secure, who in their right mind would have expected AM to never get hacked ?

If AM outsourced their security, I will admit some prurient interest in seeing that lawsuit covered in the media.

I, for one, won't be apologizing for my schadenfreude in this case. Not after being a victim of the scumbag site and a scumbag who used it.

Let's see... what did that shit put me through that I didn't mention in my OP? The very real fear of any STD, but especially the bad ones; loss of general trust in anyone I date; loss of my five-year relationship and who I thought was my best friend; loss of other friends in the shuffle; a total change in my living situation. There's more, but those alone are enough for me to feel justified in enjoying this poetic justice.

That doesn't, however, mean I condone the scumbag hackers. I hope they get punished too.

You weren't victimized by a website.  The website monetized what your silly ex would have done in any case, and perhaps may have already done.  This is akin to blaming Dodge (or sharing culpability /w Dodge) for a persons spouse leaving them because they drove off in a Ram. It's painful, it's not pleasant, but because of that pain and unpleasantness you're allowing yourself to become -one- of those scumbags, admittedly in only the tiniest fraction. If you object to my use of the term in your case, it's difficult to see why you don't object to your own use - but on the other hand entirely understandable, and you have my sympathy...but wheres our sympathy for the dot.coms owners and users? We're a selective bunch.

Loveless marriage, stuck by children, property, and propriety? Fuck em, scumbags. Abusive spouse, still looking for love in all the wrong places? Fuck em, scumbags....I could go on and on. Your cheating ex does not constitute the entirety of their customer base, and anger justly levied at him probably shouldn't extend to that faceless (but now not exactly nameless) mass, nor the owners of the business which serves the interest. I'm sure that you know that with your head just as surely as you feel the rest with your heart (hehehehe).

I don't ever apologize for my own shadenfreude.....believe we had a thread about that, but still, I call it for what it is, and it has little to do with some -other- scumbag and whether or not they actually deserve whatever "justice" I think is warranted or satisfying (or even whether or not they're -actually- a scumbag). I'm just the kind of guy who occasionally revels in the misery of others, seems you and I have that in common.

:Shakes hand: Nice ta meetya.

Right or not, I don't think anyone here can blame you for feeling that way. What an awful thing to go through. It would seriously turn my whole world upside down if I found out my husband was doing that. If something so real to me turned out to be a lie, I would never again know what was real anymore. So sad.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
