Windows 7 because it works just about flawlessly and it's beautiful. I'm checking out possible Linux successors though (looking closely at Kubuntu) because W7 is 6 years old. It'll need replacing eventually and I won't be moving to W10. I call its UI "Leon Spinx" after the boxer who Mohamed Ali once said was so ugly, it looked like a train went through his face.

I'm on msdn 7 ultimate.
Just got the email from M$ about the download to win10 on July29.
I can see a huge charlie foxtrot about to happen though.
I installed the original OS on my ssd as a bootable vhd.

XP was nice... but it's no longer supported.
My laptop has been running win7 since 2009... why stop?
At work, I have a fedora 21 with KDE, running mostly smoothly on a pentium 4 with 2GB of RAM... Most of what I do is on a virtual machine on a proper server some 2500km away, via VNC... so speed is... overrated.
Raspberry pi has raspbian and, what can I say?... it just works!

What MS promise and what they will really do are 2 separate things. Just like Windows 7's firewall was supposed to be possible to disable while in reality it can not be - at least not without fucking the whole system up. Don't truck Microsoft's promises too much. Tracking and personal data collecting is in their TOS and by installing Windows 10 you agree with them, so Microsoft can do whatever they want and no one can do anything about it.
I would install Windows 10 only after hackers have identified the executables for the keylogger and for the mandatory updates which you'll receive whether you like it or not.
That problem with tracking and key logging is vastly discussed in Bulgarian forums and tbh I dread the things I read about W10 - written by people who already have the test versions. What MS are planning to do will make "Big Brother" look like a first grader's homework.
