People get really crazy when it comes to labels, fitting in ideologies somewhere. If I were to label myself, I would probably be closer to militant athiest than anything, but even then, i'm also a humanist, so i'm not clearly defined by any one label, people who really are freethinkers tend not to be.

I don't think the OP mentioned "consciousness," or even "alive." Sounded more like "the force" from star wars.

So what is it OP? Are we talking about "the force," or is it something alive, like a cosmic amoeba that poops universes, or is this "ultimate reality" sentient?

WOW. What a universe! There is something inspiring about that. Why do I believe in an "ultimate" or DEEPER reality? Because I am amazed at our amazing universe. I'm not saying it was "created" by "god" or any such bullshit. I'm just saying, "wow". This universe is so amazing, who knows WHAT is behind it.

I've got a slightly different outlook:

I too say "wow" when I contemplate the amazing universe, but the wow-factor kicks-in without me having to consider a "deeper reality". I am not going to say that I don't know how the universe works and then immediately contradict myself by saying that therefore I do know the universe is governed by an "ultimate reality". In fact I think my sense of wonder is heightened by the realisation that I don't know what is going on behind the scenes.

perhaps you are just a spiritual atheist? oh, well, like other people have said it is not important to label yourself. You are a gnostic atheists and you aren't a religious Taoist. (they shove jade in people's orifices when they die in the hopes that the breath won't leave them and they will live again. But I could be wrong about that.) but philosophical Tao is well, not a religion. I happen to like the Tao myself.
