He is an idiot. Not only does he believe a good deal of nonsense, you know engaging him in intelligent conversation is a waste of time (from your attempt to do so regarding slavery).
Also, judging from the family values drivel, he sounds like he is likely a religious nutjob as well. So I recommend never bringing up the subject of religion with him. Or, for that matter, talking with him at all, beyond what is absolutely necessary for your job.
If he is actually shouting, what does his boss think of him doing that? Why is he allowed to shout in the workplace?

I generally bring out my psycho-grin smile and stare them right between their brows, usually shuts up these sort of people within 10secs.

But I at least know something about the subject.

Tell him you consider it offensive and/or consider it work place harassment. See what his reaction is.
