Why Men Make Better Friends Than Women

Men and women make different kinds of friends.  I loved working with guys and doing things with them (not I don't mean those things--that's a different conversation).  Guys are much more straightforward than women and less easily offended.  They play a little rougher which I like.

Women friends are for doing girl things, and talking about awful childhoods, and venting.  I walk on egg shells a little around other girls.  I don't have the knack.

The very best friend for me is a girl who behaves a lot more like a guy.

You sound like my wife Lia.  One thing she did like about her first husband -back in the sixties- is that he treated her like a buddy.  At one point they went to Europe for a year of study on an art grant he had earned.  When they were visiting another couple, Lia would join right in the discussion.  To her shock the other wife challenged her on her qualifications to speak.  Talk about the other crabs in the pot not wanting to let any of the others get out!  Plus she thinks too many women speak in little girl voices which drive her up the wall.  She loves it with me because I hold her to account on everything.  The roof is leaking and we need to use some of that black patch?  Get your coat on hon.

I am the family handyman or handywoman. I can plumb sinks, repair toilets, change outlets, install lights and ceiling fans, snake wires, build shelves, and replace asphalt roofing. Not to mention paint, caulk, and tile. ---- I got bored staying home with the kids fast. So I learned to do a few things: changing the oil in the cars, cleaning the gutters, repairing the washing machine, building a deck with arbor top. I ask for his help when I need some more muscle or another hand to hold something and not otherwise. He does nine to five, I do art, cleaning, and repair.

I tend to agree with Jenny on this.

I do have a couple of great female friends who don't carry the baggage many girls seem to.  We just have fun together.  In fact, when I was a med school in Melbourne one of those friends and I would go out on a Friday night for a couple of drinks and a meal and we would pretend to be *together* so that the guys in the bar would leave us alone - and she was a professional model, so she was hot and always getting attention.

Brilliant idea! I liked the girls night out with my cousins in Greenwich, New York. I don't act like a man (like chivalry too much) but I think like one and prefer to talk to people who don't get their feelings hurt over something that has nothing to do with feelings.

I'm happy to talk to anybody but in short doses only, unless of course I lose track of time perving on cleavage!
