No life after death

No life after death
Am I the only one who finds the concept that there is no life after death comforting? It can be scary to think about sometimes, but in the end it seems to me very peaceful.

This is something that religious people in general seem to fear and I just for the life of me understand whyThinking

Yeah it is comforting.

I like to think that as my body decomposes the energy and nutrients that are released and absorbed will provide life for many organisms.

Exactly. Why worry about what comes after? Nothing comes after. Once I no longer exist, I will not be able to care that I don't exist. I do find that comforting and feel it frees me to concern myself with my actual life. It's the only one I have... and for that reason... it is very valuable to me.

I trust you have some evidence to back up this claim. Thinking

I too find the prospect of simply dying far more attractive than living forever.
On this subject, something I've been meaning to ask, the male muslim martyrs believe ( hope? ) 76 virgins await them in " paradise "......what's in it for the female martyrs? I haven't heard what their bonus is.
HuhA man is born to a virgin mother, lives, dies, comes alive again and then disappears into the clouds to become his Dad. How likely is that?

It's certainly better than thinking you're going to Hell but I'd rather live forever at the moment than disappearing in the void.

I saw a good quote once regarding this issue. I believe it was Mark Twain who said it. I don't recall the quote verbatim, but it was something like, "I was not inconvenienced one bit before I was born. And I don't expect that I will be inconvenienced one bit after I'm dead."
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

Not only is it comforting, but it helps to do away with the bullshit reward/punishment system that most religions have associated with them. Realizing that you only have this life makes you appreciate it more and make the most of it. You also don't have to live with the stress of a god-like figure waiting over you with a baseball bat when you trip up.
Nothing is your own except the few cubic centimeters inside your skull. - George Orwell
