Which is exactly what they did. Just turns out they had the wrong house.
I'll repeat, they found nothing. The entire justification for the no knock they had, but totally didn't use™..was faulty. A resident is dead, an officer was wounded, and the surviving resident (lucky fucking guy, when you think about it) is still charged with assault and the attempted murder of a police officer. Barring extraordinary circumstances, he'll be convicted on both counts.

I stand corrected - it seems that it was indeed a no knock warrant. Which leads to the question of why the cops claim they bothered to knock and announce when they didn't have to.

Pounding down doors is dangerous business - legal or not.
Except for an immediate threat to life - I don't think cops should use it.
Somebody breaks down my door in the middle of the night screaming and yelling - is probably going to be met by at least a few 10mm rounds....

You can knock, announce, break down the door and open fire in well under 2 seconds. 1 with practice.
That doesn't leave much time for good decision making.

The danger of no knocks. I always thought they were a bad plan for everyone involved.
Think of all the neighborhoods where all the houses look the same. Going to the wrong house, especially at night, isn't exactly a surprising outcome.

But the cops in this incident claimed they knocked and shouted several times (which would take more than a second or two). They're either lying or too stupid to be carrying badges and guns.
