What is being an Atheist like?
#51
RE: What is being an Atheist like?
1.) Why are you an atheist?

Dearth of evidence

2.) What is life like for an atheist?
Work, sleep, eat, piss, shit, shower, shave and attempt to enjoy myself in a myriad of ways with the remaining time.

3.) There is no God. How do you cope with that? How do you find purpose and meaning in your life?
Same way I cope with no Santa Clause. There's nothing to cope with so the question has no meaning for me. I assign the meaning of my life. In short, I have one life to live and in the grand scheme of things it's extremely short so I eliminate and avoid bullshit at all costs; it will suck the life out of you. I take care of my responsibilities and attempt to enjoy every last second of the remaining time.

4.) What are your thoughts on death?
Like everyone else my day will come. When the race is over I want to ensure that my ride isn't pristine; that's boring. I want to cross the finish line leaving behind a trail of sparks because I'm on rims, going Mach 3, engine smoking, glass busted out, no lights, paint long gone, bumpers ripped off, radio blaring with my hair on fire in order to say "Fuck an A, that was a hell of a ride".

The only caveat is that if my wife survives me I would like to tell her one last time that she's the love of my life.

5.) Has being an atheist changed your life in any way? If so, how?
I've been atheist since I was 8, so it's tough to answer. Realizing adults, particularly those that I was supposed to trust and depend on, had no problem peddling the absurd made me distrustful of authority and instilled in me a lifelong healthy skepticism.

RE: What is being an Atheist like?
1. Because I deemed Atheism to be Correct and tested it through logic I became an Atheist.
Therefor if the most logical thing of all deemed a God to exist, I would be slightly skeptical(Of course), but once I have looked into how the results were achieved I may believe it.
2. Some Good, Some Bad, not much different from when I was a Theist.
Sometimes Theists are assholes on things like Christmas and when I tell them that I am an Atheist while they talk to me about religion, that seems to be the only negative repercussion. A positive feeling towards some amount of control may be brought by Atheism.
3. I never really thought my purpose was brought on by some God.
My personal Philosophy is that you make your own purpose.
Society works by Supply and Demand. Your purpose in that is to Supply goods and services that are needed or wanted in some form or another. I always was Cynical even when I was a Theist, so that isn't particularly bad in my view.
4. Death: Once it ends it ends. Quoting Mark Twain, "I am not Scared of Death, for I have been dead for thousands of years before my birth."
5. I found another forums site and some YouTube channels to read and watch. I was a bit of a Forums browser before becoming an Atheist, so this isn't exactly extremely unexpected. I also watched YouTube videos.

How is this for you?

I actually am Christian, and have been raised that way my whole life (baptist denomination). Being in the church is hard for me since I'm transgender, but I'm not leaving yet, because I still believe in God. However, I am willing to get some insight on to what atheism is like, from atheist themselves. I'm, how should I put it...educating myself on atheism. So, wooo!

My questions:

1.) Why are you an atheist?

2.) What is life like for an atheist?

3.) There is no God. How do you cope with that? How do you find purpose and meaning in your life?

4.) What are your thoughts on death?

5.) Has being an atheist changed your life in any way? If so, how?

Those are all my questions for now. If I have anymore, I'll be sure to ask.

Connie

EDIT: I just realized I made a typo with the numbering of the questions. I fixed it now.
If I may, I had an interview conducted on me by a fellow religious studies student from Saint Leo University...perhaps you will find it interesting...
