Old news. Eating meat isn't good for you. Our intestines are short enough that we are capable of eating meat and surviving to well past reproduction age and that gives us an evolutionary advantage but we are better off as vegetarians. Vegetables can be metabolized with less issues than meat. We already knew this. Our intestines aren't long enough to derive sufficient nutrients from simple vegetables as are those of true herbivores such as as cows and elephants but we do better on a diet of complex vegetables than we do on meat. No new news here.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Ain't gonna stop me eating bacon.
Everything causes cancer anyway.
You could live your whole life actively avoiding "cancer causing" foods and drink, even avoiding smoking and taking drugs etc. You could aim to live the healthiest lifestyle imaginable. Yet even if you did so, by the age of 30 you could still randomly develop cancer anyway. And the guy who's been smoking 50 cigs a day for 40 years is still alive and kicking.
Or better yet, you could get ran over by a bus or have a heart attack or be chopped up by a machete wielding nutjob.
Is anyone actually going to look at a bacon sandwich and go "oh shit, better not eat that, might get cancer".
Fucking no.
So I say: YOLO.

You are right, of course. We are mortal despite what we eat. Our lives will very likely be longer on a vegetable diet than a meaty one but one has an individual choice. One will have an a smaller environmental footprint on a vegetarian diet vs. a meaty one too but again, this is a personal choice.

Even if you provide one, I could still get stabbed tomorrow, rendering my vegetarian diet pointless if the aim is to lengthen my life-span.
I don't see the point personally. Ofcourse, don't go out of your way to be a fat mess that's putting your health at more risk than what would otherwise be the norm, but at the same time living your life like you're trying to add 20 years is to the detriment of those years you are living IMO.

Maybe if everyone suddenly turned Vegan, but there's not going to be a shortage of cows pumping farts into the air any time soon so the environmental reasoning behind eating a pure vegetable diet isn't exactly compelling either, at least not for me.

Depends on the vegetable. Some of them will kill you quicker than cancer.
