Australia launches Anti-Islam Party

RE: Australia launches Anti-Islam Party
Quote:I've met Marxists and liberals who were super close minded, and I have a far-right friend who is one of the nicest people I've ever met. I've discussed things with fascists, racists, commies, liberals, conservatives, anarchists, etc - I've reached the conclusion that the more I talk to people and the more I know, the more confused I am and the less answers I end up finding.

Humans are never the entirety of their label. Labels are shortcuts, and at best can only give you a small overview. It is only when you discuss individual topics you really get to know an individual. Not even with the word "atheist" makes all atheists agree on all things all the time.

I don't know about the current Portugese fearmonger branch, but how would you describe the Vlaams block, The Sweden Democrats, Orban's Fides, The FPÖ or Wilder's party?

What have they all to offer besides inciting hatred and offer some fearmongering and easy solutions? How about describing their economical plans?

They go by the PNR acronym. What they do is the occasional skirmishes with anarchists and vice versa. They also take advantage of fear mongering. They do not have parliament seats. Their leaders are usually involved in crime and when the cops get some of them, they are being politically jailed. Bah.

All we care about really is how to get our economy working again. You know, to pay our debt and interest to our partners in europe.

To be fair, that's not the only party whose members are mostly criminal, if ya know what I mean...

Like who? The whole political spectrum? In here, we could borrow some guillotines from France.

Indeed brother, but I prefer the old school line up shooting method.

But what you fail to get is, that all of these parties are like vampires. The feed on fear. If there's no fear, they would get no votes, since they have nothing to offer besides fearmongering, nationalism and bigotry. I would think, someone in Portugal could relate, since it's not that long since the regime established by Salazar has been overthrown. Only 41 short years. The fact, that you're younger than that, doesn't excuse you're falling for the pied pipers.

You are not seeing the point here - My point is that every party has criminals in it, the difference is that mainstream parties have corrupt people who steal money and benefit corporations, while smaller parties simply have people who murdered others, robbed, etc - I was saying that it's not a valid argument to say everyone in (example) the Golden Dawn is a criminal when mainstream parties have pretty much betrayed the Greek people.

Aside from that I'd like to note that our far-right party is very different from Salazar's policy - One thing to keep in mind is that this kind of racism is not appealing because Portuguese were never this racist - Was Salazar racist? Probably, he did keep the colonies, but he also allowed mixed marriages between Portuguese whites and Africans from the colonies. Salazar basically had a sort of Catholic doctrine coupled with authoritarianism and traditionalism, but he was very different from someone like Mussolini, not even comparable. Arguably, our extremist party is very distinct because it is strongly anti-semitic, while Salazar actually disagreed with Hitler and helped Jews during the war.

I wasn't saying "X party is good", I was saying that most are bad, it is ironic to say the far-right is criminal when the centrist parties benefit corporations above all and damage the working class, specifically in Portugal. Why do you think so many of us are emigrating en masse? It's not a coincidence. Everything is getting so damn expensive. There are no safe jobs, everything is temporary and you better do what you're told otherwise you're fired. Social support is not that high as many people believe and can barely help people with children. I think if we were to turn to extremism, we would certainly prefer a more far-left, pro-workers party.

As for feeding on fear - I actually believe that all those parties think they are right, and think that they can save the world. All parties feed on something, it can be fear, but it can also be ignorance and despair. Most mainstream parties rely on false expectations. "Yes, we will raises salaries" - You vote for them, and then "We actually meant we are going to lower salaries"

So, again. Second try. What have they to offer besides Xenophobia, fear and bigotry? What is their plan for leading a country? Any country? I would be highly surprised if you can come up with any program besides foreigners out and EU very bad.
