God was made up to control the population.  My reasons for unbelief have nothing to do with science, although I can see just as well as the next person that there is no real evidence to support the existence of a deity.  It's all down to the fact that I can tell when there is someone trying to brainwash me and prevent me from living my own life.  That's it.

Why god was created, nobody can say for sure, because it fulfils many different purposes, the main one seems to be to help us cope with the harsh reality by providing instant feel-good answers.

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.
