I agree why would a religion any religion call itself the religion of peace while having documents 
and pages about war and how to conduct war. Islam not even peaceful if you follow all of it 
same goes  with christianity judaism and anything with yaweh in it.

According to these people a REAL muslim is one who doesn't really pay attention to what the religion says and lives a pretty normal life.

The old Greek delivery driver came around today and I asked him what he thought about France.
He said because we are a Christian nation, we will always be incompatible with the beliefs of Islam!

That got me wondering. What is it that grinds us the most about Islam?
Is it our democratic way of life only? I don't personally believe that it's a clash of religions.
The majority of Au and the UK aren't religious, so what is it?

Does the middle east have anything like a constitution which states freedom is an inalienable right?
Maybe that's all it is?

If all these people love our way of life, why in all these hundreds of years haven't they changed from within?
I'm suspecting that they can't due to the rule of the iron fist.

The only things these religions have that is real is their books. Either they are making a serious effort to follow what it actually says, or they are not. ISIS are, moderates are not (or they are failing miserably if they are). I would call moderates the "real radicals".

Of course, I prefer moderates to ISIS. I want people to ignore those stupid books. But pretending the religion has nothing to do with people following the books those religions promote is preposterous. If they were promoted as simply a guideline, or as ancient man's interpretation of God or something, that would be entirely different. But that is not what gets jammed into childrens' brains, is it?

Take responsibility for what you "teach" your children. If you tell them a hideous slaughter manual is the word of God and should be followed, don't be surprised if they actually do it.

It's a few reasons the middle east is economically under developed why else would we get cheap fuel and over all under developed 
infrastructure wise.

Thanks for all the responses. I must say some I expected and some I didn't but i'm still none the wiser. I think Dystopia's definition is probably the most accurate but at the same time the least helpful in trying to understand what they mean. I also find it interesting that no Muslim members have replied with an explanation?

Formally, I'd say a Muslim is someone who says they are a Muslim. They shouldn't be required to explain themselves further to anyone. It's not a well defined term, so all you can do is take people at their word. A real Muslim is therefor also someone who says they are a Muslim.

To state otherwise is to assign authority to some particular person, who gets to say that some people aren't Muslim in some real sense, even if they claim that they are.

Informally, each person can make up whatever crap they want as being the criteria for being a Muslim. I can't stop them.
