Actually feel like I accomplished something major today, although all that happened was the nailing-up of a board, reading a piece of mail, and sending off an e-mail.
Finished a construction project that I had been avoiding for a couple of years but tackled in earnest a couple of weeks ago (finishing the trim on an exterior door). Also got one step closer to finishing the distribution of my late aunt's estate. It'll be *so* nice to get that folder of paperwork out of My office once and for all. Feeling mildly giddy. The Fiendish Thingie that My daughter and I are conspiring to buy for Yule is actually on sale locally, so sometime tonight we will become the proud owners of our very own attack-trained heavy-duty kitchen mixer. Mass quantities of noms for ourselves and friends will inevitably follow. (In particular, I may never have to buy a loaf of bread again because we can more readily make the good stuff.)
I'm also in a good mood because in addition to it being Friday, My work queue is full of neurology reports to type. I  neurology.

Blogged about My adventures in mixer purchasing here. A trip in every sense of the word, which why I'm feeling trippy. (TL;DR version: Managed to involuntarily break a couple of debit machines, and undoubtedly piss off the other people in line -- but yes, I did get the mixer.)
Feeling very happy despite knowing I'll have to work a few hours late.
I want my son home, I know he can't be for awhile. He is where he needs to be.
I remember my father saying one time that perhaps I might get repaid for the trouble I put my parents through. OK, yes, that's an asshole thing today, but the man from a different time and not long for the world so it'll not argue with him. I don't believe in such cosmic balance sheets to be sure but I suppose there is a poetic justice here. I realize I have been vague and to exactly what happened but there's a reason for that. His mom.... I can't be with her - ever - but she was so distraught yesterday. She shouldn't have been driving. On her behalf I apologize for anyone Wives's stuck in the aftermath on I-5 south near the OR-WA border. She's OK, some whiplash and bruising from seat belts and air bags.... she always did follow too close. I called the insurance co's bluff and am keeping my boy where he needs to be. I'll appeal the final denial if and when it comes and I'll be bringing a lawyer to make sure fucking Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas does the right goddamned thing. Can you believe this shit? My 14 year old attempted suicide by asphyxiation on Monday and on Friday they're saying he doesn't need to be in the hospital - because he is ashamed to verbalize his feelings of self-harm and that particular checkbox can't be checked. |
