Actually, it does. God killed Onan after jerkin his gerkin the very moment he blew his load. There's some disagreement as to -why- god would do such an amusing thing, ofc. Better safe than sorry, though, when dealing with a murderous god.

The distinction is lost on christians, however. Birth control, masturbation (in some cases premarital sex)...all onanism. Spilling seed anywhere but the womb, subverting god's great plan and purpose for sex.

Yeah, Onan didn't masturbate, at least not according to the story, but it still got called Onanism. The only thing left to wonder is if the misinterpretation by the church was deliberate or accidental, at least initially. Of course now, it's become part of some core doctrines even though it's blatantly made up.

I think it's just a symptom of human rationalizing over the irrational. Neither accidental nor deliberate, compulsive.

It has to do with Jewish law. According to the Mosaic Law. If a man dies and leaves no children, his brother must fuck his widow and bear children for him. Onan did not want to father children that legally would belong to his brother not to himself. God killed him for breaking that law.
How can anybody be safe from a murderous god? Somebody here called him a draconian psychopath. A man can trick his brother out of his birthright and deceive his father into giving it to him, and god will honor him, but let a man reach out to keep the Ark of the Covenant from toppling and god will strike him dead. You never know.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

It wonder if it's a relief to any Christians reading this to know that the bible does not say masturbation or contraception are a "sin", and that this has just been made up.
Even if you believe Jesus is real and watching you, and that the bible is really what he said, don't let people put even more words in his mouth to make you feel bad about harmless things.

I don’t think too many gay men will agree that what they do doesn’t count as sex. Or will we have a double standard for heterosexuals?

I don't think many women (or scientists) will agree that having a dirty rag forced into the vagina until it's soaked in blood is a valid way to determine virginity either. But this is Truth. Ask Jesus he'll tell ya.
