American gun laws summed up in memes

Which would not be a good thing in a true union of independent States, just saying. Not that Washington has truly pretended to recognize us as that since the Civil War, I know. But if it ever does again, then Congress should focus primarily on laws which directly protect people's liberty and lives. Most gun owners and gun collectors never kill people, therefore direct protection doesn't apply. Anti-slavery and anti discrimination laws certainly do.

"Most" isn't even the word....a portion of gun owners so small as to be statistically insignificant are the cause of gun death.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I don't -make- arguments about defending myself either form criminals or from the government, or even for hunting.  There's no need.  You have absolutely no reason to restrict or remove my access to guns.  Nada.  It's that simple.  Take guns away from felons, already part of our laws.  Take guns away from crazy people, already part of our laws.  I've offered a view of the stats at play.  People who want to commit suicide are 60% of our "gun problem", and the remaing 40% are cops or robbers.  I am neither.  My guns are involved in neither.  I agree that both the suicide problem..and the cops and robbers problem..ought to be addressed.

Gun control will address neither, and so the stated goal will not be achieved.  If you want to address that problem, if the problem is in fact avoidable deaths...and not that people own guns, something else has to be done.  If the problem we want to address is that people own guns, and not avoidable death...then sure...gun control (or gun bans) can solve that "problem".

When you say "our" do you mean "federal"? Because that's not true. The only federal law concerned with background checks that stop felons and committed mentally ill from purchasing firearms is the Brady Bill from 1993, but thanks to the 10th Amendment states are free to either substitute the NCIS (federal) background checks with their own version or not have one at all. And many conservative states do just that.

How do you define the term "gun control"? What would you suppose be done that doesn't affect your ability to purchase a firearm?

Check state laws, then county....then municipal. You don't really think that we live in a country where there's no laws regarding crazy folks and guns...do you?

No law currently in effect, enforced or otherwise, affects -my- ability to get a gun, and that's exactly as it should be.

So what are we talking about then?  We both understand that between federal, state, county, and municipal law you will not be able to find a place in this entire country where it's legal for crazy to get a gun.

The trouble is identifying crazy, and that's not a "gun problem", nor are crazies with guns significant in regards to gun deaths to begin with.

A moment of clarity, up there. I hope we see more and more of it.

Yes xD

Oversimplification, maybe, but still true.

I think it is sick that the gun worshipers think we are so much better with our attitude about guns when other nations have nowhere near the amount of gun death we do, and these nations are our allies, not our enemies. I think our gun nuts here need to shut the fuck up and take some advice from our allies who do a better job on guns.

PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW is unfortunately a very apt description of the "do nothing" right and their corporate lobby NRA.
