The Atheist and Marco Rubio

RE: The Atheist and Marco Rubio
I was with him right up until 1:10. That's the point at which he stopped answering a valid question and began preaching.

We cannot fault politicians for dodging questions. They are not there to answer them honestly, they are there to push an agenda, and so every word they say has to be carefully crafted so that it conveys a particular message which the media will surely pick up. If any one politician started being absolutely sincere in every single interview then he would lose a lot of voters and supporters with every uttered phrase. It's completely unrealistic to expect them to do this. Rather, people should be smart enough to judge the candidate based on his political past and judge that against what he says he'll do in the future and thus strike a balance.

That is why while facing the majority with the fact others exist isn't enough. And not just with atheists, but a non Christians of other beliefs such as Buddhists or Hindus or Jews ect ect ect. The First Amendment does protect freedom of religion. What our politicians need to be faced with is that there is no social pecking order set up by the First Amendment that allows Christianity a first class airline ticket with all others seated in coach.

You could easily substitute the word politicians for Christians, and it would still fit nicely with what you are saying.

Well, ok, I see where you're going with that, but as I phrased it, it doesn't as easily describe proselytizing folks as it does politicians.

"I believe the most important job I have is the job of a husband and a father, more important even than the presidency."

I like that.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Nope. First off, when you have that high an office, you will be spending most of your time focusing on the needs of the country. Secondly anyone elected to that office, female or male, will have tons of staff attending to the kids. The first man or first lady will be the one outside the staff having the most time to spend with the kids. And any first family will be afforded travel together when the elected president desires it.

I don't want a president who cannot balance both.

My husband is gone a lot, working 12 hour days and sometimes gone all weekend. And this is the "easy" pilot schedule because he's an instructor. Once he's done with his instructor tour, and goes off to do the real thing, he'll be working 12 hours days AND be going on deployments to the other side of the world for months at a time. But this does not mean his job will be more important to him than his wife and kids. Having a job that keeps you busy or away from home does not mean it is more important to you than your family.
