One way is to look at "purpose" as what we do on the way to being dead. Unless you are self-sufficient, your existence depends upon others, and they depend upon you, so I would consider everyone has a role in the continuance of humanity. If you want personal achievements, such as reading lots of books or climbing mountains, that is fine for personal satisfaction. Maybe part of why we exist is to BE ABLE to do those things, but I still believe we exist to simply make more people (or indirectly to enable the creation of people and continuation of those lives).

What is our purpose here on earth?

To fuck. As much as possible, with as many people as possible, in as many different ways as possible.
Whether or not it achieves a goal, whether or not it is in your best interests, whether or not it serves any further purpose than the act itself it is in your nature. Don't reason why, don't ask any deeper questions than whether it does or doesn't hurt anyone. Anything past that one important question is missing the point. Those questions are restraints, limits, barriers that will leave you paralyzed trying to be deeper than you are or any human being is while your life runs out. Take your pride, take your ego, take your desire for meaning and throw them away. You are an animal. Nothing more. This was true yesterday, its true today and it will be true tomorrow. Unless it causes harm or contradicts reason follow your instincts right up until the point your rotting corpse is lowered into a hole in the ground. Because that point is approaching. Its approaching fast and unless you figure out a way to be immortal it will be here before you know it. Stop fucking around and start fucking around.

Maybe the three years I worked as a medic count towards continuance of humanity, but everything else I did in life, certainly didn't. My line of work is totally unimportant. It only serves to line the pockets of my boss. (February 29, 2016 at 9:07 pm)RaphielDrake Wrote: To fuck. As much as possible, with as many people as possible, in as many different ways as possible. But in terms of 14 billion years, or 5 billion years from now, no, humans are a tiny and temporary blip in the grand scope. We don't matter to the universe, we only matter to ourselves while we are alive. Speak for yourself. I'm going to infiltrate Google, upload my mind to teh interwebs, conquer the world, and then turn the galaxy into a supercomputer whose only goal is to sustain my precious consciousness until the end of eternity. Also, I will watch boys masturbate in the shower as often as possible (disapprovinglin, of course), and pretend it's because I need to "judge" them. Then I'll burn them for a few billion years just cuz. . . you know. . . I can. If we are successful as a species, we will create more people. But is not creating more people necessarily a failure? It is simply one of the two possible outcomes. Because we are biased toward survival, we view the survival of the species as the winning condition. But we are not the species. What is a winning condition for us personally does not speak to what is a winning condition for the species except as an artifact of our perspective. But we aren't the species human, just individual humans with varying perspective on what the winning condition for ourselves is. Our purpose is whatever we view as the winning condition for us personally is, not what we would project onto the species as a whole. The species as a whole, on naturalism, has no winning condition; it's neutral to whether 'we' survive or don't survive. Both are equally natural outcomes.

Yeah Lia says her parents didn't hide from her or her three siblings the fact that they were all accidents of the diaphragm. You'd think that would take the pressure to succeed off but not my wife. She waited almost a decade longer than I to retire and still shrinks from having company on a weekday when she could be working. Weird.
In all honesty i don't know were just here and alive for what purpose don't know
and i would like to know but again i don't believe in some sort of ultimate purpose. We as evolved primates notice patterns that's why early man created gods. In all reality when you think about how vast the universe is you can just loose your sense of purpose in the grand scheme of things were just a foot note in a large universe that will kill it'self due to expansion and heat death. So looking at it that way do we have purpose no i just lost my sense of purpose just thinking about it. But yeah we are a successful species a violent and yet ignorant one that that. So there is good things and bad things about us humans. Overall is there any purpose to us being alive simply no were just lucky to be a live. Think about this way think of all the great people that could be born but don't, it's just that were just lucky to be a live we give our own lives meaning and purpose. So what is our purpose on earth nothing were just chemistry who are lucky to be live that's pretty much it, depressing but it's true.
