Do You Believe in Being Blessed?
March 3, 2016 at 3:03 pm
So I was just in the right place at the right time.
I was in the grocery store this morning just about to pay for my stuff when they told me that some man had paid for them with a $100 bill and said for me to keep the change. He said he had been blessed and he wanted to bless somebody else. Now my first thought was not to accept this. When I was child my godmother told me to never let a man pay for my stuff in a store because then he will go around telling people I’m his girlfriend. But this seemed crazy because all the employers in this store know me by name and they saw the man who told them not to tell me who he was. Cool, I’ve got witnesses. So then the cashier handed me the change—77 fucking dollars.
My neighbor had told me a while ago that somebody blessed her by paying for her stuff in a store. So I guess this is just something people do in this town. I hope nobody noticed that I didn’t go around, “Oh, praise the Lord, hallelujah, glory to god, thank you, Jesus. I’m blessed.” Perhaps that was expected, but I think my usual reserve allayed any suspicions.
Actually, even though this was good fortune for me, I can't give credit to god for zeroing in on me when I was about to pay for my stuff while there are people who really need help who aren't getting it. This is especially odd since a god would surely know that I'm not going to give glory to him, but the people who need his help do believe and pray and trust him and make a million excuses for why he isn't helping them.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

Consider it just random chance that you happened to be in line behind a psycho with too much money on his hands.
You could donate it to the Freedom From Religion Foundation and really fuck the sanctimonious twats up.

I'm not into being blessed, however, if using that term towards someone else might be to my ($$$) advantage, hell yeah, I'll bless someone so they will be favorably disposed to me.

I don't believe in being blessed. I believe in people being kind and humanists. I believe in acts of good will. The person does it whether they think god told them to do it or not. People that kill in the name of their god are creating a god that reflects their violent character. People that give in the name of their god are reflecting their generous character.

I don't believe in being "blessed" either and am pretty much on board with what others' say about having good fortune or having someone show someone else some humanity. Too bad the imaginary god doesn't seem to get this concept. The things he could accomplish by following this example!

"Blessed" with charity or a "miracle survival" is bullshit when you consider that 50 million people on average die worldwide from everything.
Charity is not a monopoly of any one religion, all of them try to lay claim to it as if they got the one right religion. Humans do compassionate things because we evolved with empathy, not because of a god or a religion. I am sure that person wants to believe their goodness comes from the divine, but that is not where it is coming from at all.
If a religion magically made everyone only do good, there would be only one religion, but every nation world wide has both hospitals and prisons.

Chalk it up to a random act of kindness. Just take it for what it is, one human helping another, and leave it at that. Don't give to much significance to the 'blessed" word. How many times have you been "blessed" after sneezing? I don't get bent out of shape when that happens, bet you don't either (but I could be wrong). Hell, I even slip some times and say "bless you", but I try to add "said the atheist". However, I can't stand to be blessed in person, face to face. Especially if they know I'm an atheist. Telling me to "have a blessed day" I find totally offensive. Got one christer lady that tells me that every time I see her. I typically respond with "thanks for offending the atheist".
I like doing RAK's for PIF's. Makes me feel good. Grocery store is my favorite place to do them.
