By the responses since I posted I would have to say nothing would change if heaven and hell became a reality to everyone.
Min I have no fear of hell God through Christ has secured a place in heaven for me. This is exactly why I can live life without fear and live life with joy. I'm not sure why you think that christians live in fear of hell, we've been freed from that reality, it's the lost who have to live with the fear that hell could be a reality.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Keep living your fantasy Godschild. Heaven and hell, like god, are creations of human imagination. Nothing more, nothing less. Why should we live in fear of a man-made invention? Might as well live my life in fear of evil black unicorns that are going to come and get me in my sleep.
I'd bet you also believe Santa leaves presents under your xmas tree. After all, there is no difference between believing in gods or Santa Claus. They are both fairy tales.

How can Atheists live in fear for something they don't believe in? Religious people in the other had do fear Hell, that is the whole point of a religion isn't it? Keeping big daddy happy or else... You only say you don't fear it to convince yourself, but you are not fooling anyone!
And actually DiRNiS makes a fair point which I will take one step further! So riddle me this, how come there are religious people who don't believe in astrology? So far, all who I've met who did not believed in it, said they didn't because there is no scientific evidence to back it up!! Some consistency please!

Have you ever heard of "Hell Houses?" You can't read about those and still try to tell me Christians aren't trying to preach that hell is real.

If you believe in hell then you fear it.
To be feared is its raison d'etre.
You might not think your going there but you still fear the concept.
Religion is a fantastically efficient system for controlling simple minded people.
All you have to do is:
1: Convince people there is an afterlife.
2: Convine people that if they are bad they will be punished when dead(Hell)
3: Convince people if they are good they will be rewarded when dead(heavan)
4: provide some sort of 'spiritual' surveylance mechanism(god)
Its perfect, requires no physical proof, all it needs to function is a society of gullible morons and some sort of 'guidelines' as to what good and bad things are, these are widley variable as can be seen by the strange practices of various religions.

I don't understand why you shouldn't still fear it? Could you not stray from the path? Could Satan not tempt you?
In addition, if you have nothing to fear, then why be a good person? Why not rape and murder and pillage if you are 100% certain that you are going to heaven?
