Didn't it occur to anyone trotting out Mitt Romney, the FUCKING LOSER from the last election, that to exhort the Trumpites to repent of their heresy and fall in line with the party poobahs, is precisely the sort of attitude the Trumpites are sick and fucking tired of ??

Hell, even the evangelicals are ready to throw Jesus under the bus to get Trump, despite his crowing about about ADULTERY, why would the party hierarchy think they are going to be able to control, this movement with a business as usual attitude ??

They're in a new game, new rules and strategies and playbooks now.

That the repubs would rather have Hillary than Trump ought to be a canary in the mines moment,  clearly it ins't.  Seems like too many people have overestimated this "establishment" business.  It's not as though it's an exclusive club, vote Trump in for whatever ridiculous reason you like and guess what...he's part of the establishment.

Will his supporters suddenly distrust him on account of it? Do they actually expect that he can effect change (do they think that anyone running for office could do so)? Nope, he will not beat Hillary, or Bernie for that matter. The gains are in the swing voters, and the math is simply not there in the minority vote or swing vote to counter all the base he has pissed off. And Hillary isn't stupid either, she will eat him alive and so will the PACS that support her.

The entire party knows he is sinking them and is merely now trying to see if they can either get someone else nominated, or cut their losses to save the party.
