With all due respect that makes him sound perfectly qualified for the job he's applying for, no?

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke

Nah.  We like to fool ourselves.

All the other politicians except the one we support are liars.

Thanks for the blanket condemnation.

I disagree. That can happen but in my experience the majority are not criminals or assholes. My father was not, his father was not, most of the small businesses I grew up with and do business with now are not. The people I worked for were not. And on, and on, and on, ..................

Just tired of the blanket statements. It's not reality. Every person that you have ever done business with is a criminal asshole? Must suck to be you.

I'm sure the robber barons of the 1890's considered your grandfather a "capitalist."

Meanwhile, modern robber barons are looking to cut their losses.

Pretty clear sign the GOP has given up on winning the presidency, IMO.

You're talking about small businesses and I agree. My father was a moderate businessman too. Running a small chain of shops and we were well off when I was a child. He was what you might call a patron, always looking out for his employees wellbeing and calling them by first name while they adressed him with mister.

But we're not talking about that anymore in our world. What makes it tick are impersonal corporations run by scum, getting away with everything, as 2008 has taught us in the most painful way possible. Buying out the competition, so it's not even a free market anymore. Large behemoths are running the economy, dertermining the quality as well as the price of goods. There's almost no competition to speak of in many fields. To the detriment of the consumer and to the detriment of the employees. That's a caricature of a free market, and a bad one for that matter.

And that's why I always make the distinction between a free market and capitalism. The former is helpful, the latter only serving a select few.
