The problem with centrist Democrats is the same as the problem with Nu Labor, Aussie Labor and the German SDP and most modern "left-centre" parties, they've all turned into milquetoast versions of their opponents. They've swallowed the Austrian-Chicago school assertions that the market is always right, regulation always wrong and capitalism the only reasonable economic model to adopt. They've abandoned their constituents, all for the promise of directorships and speaking tours.
It always amazes me that the policies which brought us the economic miracle between 1946 and 1974 (the longest preiod of sustained economic growth coupled with the greatest reduction in weth inequality) have been consistently derided as far-left for at least the last 20 years. It shows that the left has given up politically.
