I'm of the opinion that unpleasant experiences motivate us more than pleasant ones do. We'll do anything to get away from anxiety, fear, boredom, loneliness, or sadness, but we give less thought to whether something will make us happy or not. To pass the time without feeling, would that be nirvana?
