Can Facebook be a dick?

My Facebook account was recently shut down and FB informed me that I needed to download a free anti-malware program in order to remove something harmful on my computer in order to return.
I ignored it.
I deactivated my FB account.
Then I actually ran several programs, and there is nothing wrong with my computer.
What could this be?

FB doesn't allow it. FB is an unwilling vehicle for it.
FB is probably king of the most gullible, least sophisticated group of people on the internet. It's a natural target.
