Can I just say, and I'm just being honest...

My day began with a gloomy and misty morning.  Upon leaving my house a bit later than usual, I managed to get lucky with the lights and make it to work on time.  The morning meeting consisted of routine small talk and occasional laughs and humor aimed at uplifting employee morale. In addition, the usual spiel about accommodating negative customer behavior was also emphasized: to be fair, business is not great, so we cannot afford to risk the word of mouth back lash that can result from being too strict with returns and pricing issues. However, in the back of my mind, I considered the following idea: what if, in addition to accommodating the few customers who misbehave and carry on, we also accommodate those few who are exceptional: would this not positively impact people, make a difference, and give the store positive word of mouth referrals, which could enhance business?

Upon getting onto the sales floor, I became occupied with setting the next day’s sale, as the store resembled a ghost town.  However, as I was placing a 50% off the original price sign into a rather stubborn sign holder, an older gentleman approached me with one of our new outerwear jackets in his arms and politely asked if I could check him out at the register; apparently, he and his wife had been searching the sales floor for someone to help them (we are often short staffed).  Once we arrived at the register, we were joined by the gentleman’s wife.  As I was ringing the jacket, his wife, in a very matter of factual, respectful manner, remarked that on a previous occasion, she also had a hard time finding someone to help her.  On top of this, the coupon that I had at the register would not work on the jacket.

Now, it must be acknowledged that the gentleman and his wife did not carry on: they were perfectly willing to let it be, pay for the jacket, and leave.  However, they were both conducting themselves admirably, and long story short, I was able to get them a $25 discount card, which worked on the jacket.  As a result, the gentleman purchased the jacket, and before he turned away to leave, he and his wife paused and smiled at me: in that brief moment, the former gloominess of the morning was transformed into a truly beautiful and memorable experience.

Every time I read your posts, I smile. You seem ethical and like a good worker to have on staff. Looking forward to more posts Smile

I don't judge you. I don't even care. You're fine. I mean it. Blah. Behfhrusksbdhdj what happened? What ju talking 'bout? I don't know what you're talking about. I should know that the... Nope. Jfhrhensmdndjdnsndnd I can't hear you. I have no idea what's going on.

Now, if you're a cilantro hater, or a priest, then we got problems. Or if you hate Rob. Or Emma. Or my kids. Or Tim Minchin. Or Tyler. But hfhekfhfhrhskdjhfu? I don't know and I like it that way.

And don't call me Joe. I get that you think because Hayro calls me Mister and I like it, I'll like being called Joe. Dude. Don't. Might as well hate cilantro or keep talking about hdhdgshkshdhd. If I were a dude, my name would be less vanilla, almost equally average, but more musky, beardy, black, and a little bit criminally. Just sayin'. Nothing against Joes. I just don't feel it goes with the face I'd have if I were a dude. Ya know? Carry on.

Omg same here. Except for my dad. My dad was a Joe and he was the best daddy a girl could ask for. I miss him.

Several months ago, while I was working a closing shift at my store, I met a truly unique individual in my department (I work in menswear).  It all started after I had finished updating the manager about my progress for that evening.  After the manager departed, I checked on a woman who was shopping in our Tommy Bahama section.  Upon greeting her, she emphatically remarked that I have a terrific voice; she wanted to acknowledge that before proceeding any further, which was very sweet of her.  Thus, after thanking her for her kind remark, she informed me that she was looking for a lightweight, soft cotton t-shirt that had elongated sleeves and was not humongous on her; she had a very petite frame, so her particular needs were very unique and challenging to satisfy.  In addition, she was an engineer who worked outdoors and wanted something comfortable, cool, and lightweight that would protect her from the sun.

Now, she found a couple of Tommy Bahama t-shirts that she felt okay with; however, we both agreed that we may be able to find something better and proceeded to tag-team our efforts into other sections (my department was completely dead, so there was no one else to check in on) .  Unfortunately, all we could find were shirts that looked like something hospital workers would wear, so she ultimately defaulted back to the Tommy Bahama t-shirts.  Hence, we both smiled and made our way back to the register.

As I began ringing up her shirts, she began talking about some art work that she had done: she had some of her paintings on her phone, and she asked if I would like to see them; naturally, I accepted her kind invitation.  I must say, her portraits and landscapes were very creative and breathtakingly beautiful.  I then remarked that having such a high level of artistic talent combined with her aptitude for the sciences, made her a very gifted and talented individual, which caused her to smile warmly.  Hence, as the transaction wrapped up, we wished each other well and went our separate ways.  Once she left, I briefly paused and realized how lucky I was to share such a beautiful experience with her.

P.S.  I hope she is doing well.  I find gifted people to be very fascinating, especially individuals who are as nice and decent as she is.

Good news: I saw the surgeon today. I should hopefully have surgery at the end of November, which will improve my health and allow me to eat a proper diet again.

Bad news: I'm so depressed I don't even care. I'd rather she said she was going to cut my head off. A truck was waiting to pull out on the duel carriageway coming the other way and I wanted it to. Finish me off please. It wouldn't be my fault.

I barely enjoy anything. I do things to keep myself sane. There are very, very few things that give me any pleasure. There's only a few other things I actually want, that would actually bring me some sort of excitement and sense of feeling alive. But almost all of them, I can't have. If I tried to have them, I'd be facing a cost which was too high, to myself and/or others. I'm stuck feeling fucking miserable. And to make it worse, I have the perfect wife. I should be happy. I have everything I should need, right here. Yet this is how I feel.
