My rational side agrees with you. My irrational side conjures up vivid images of all the horrible things I read about on the news and bombards me with them when I see my boys going out into the water. Thankfully these forums are a good place for strengthening one's rational side.

That's -why- people get bit though.  The sharks think you're smaller than you are because they can't see all of you.....just those tasty thighs and ankles.

There's only one way to be sure.  Nukes, orbits, etc.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Little sharks come up close or semi close but don't really attack much. In most beaches if a shark is spotted too close they make everyone get out. Under tow is way scarier than sharks IMO. When I was about 12 I nearly drown when the undertow sucked me out from the beach. Huge waves were painfully crashing down forcing me fairly deep user the water. I'd catch a quick breath then get slammed down again. I had second second degree sunburn that day. Undecided

The best plan (or the one I prefer) take a shit load of sunscreen and protective clothing and accessories and drinking water. Go to the beach and make sand castles and play in the edge no more than 1.5-2 ft in. Keep a close eye on your stuff so you'll know you're not being moved away by the water. After an hour of that, go back to your hotel and spend the rest of the day swimming in a pool looking at the ocean. Big Grin

That's sounds like good plan. Fortunately my boys take after me and are scared to go too far out without me. I'll bet we inherited some genes that saved somebodies lives.

And I usually keep sunscreen slathered on my boys. They might get a little red, but so far no peeling. My husband is another matter entirely though. "Ah, I don't need any sunscreen, I'm good." Two days later he's laying in the hotel room moaning with sun blisters  Undecided

And are you sure they're all gone now? Like, did someone do a sonar sweep of the water to make sure the two alligators didn't leave some alligator eggs behind?

They are gone i watched animal control remove them as far as i know there was no eggs at all.

Isn't that what they said about the raptors in Jurassic Park?

I never understand why not wearing sunscreen is considered by some to be macho or manly. It causes melanoma even if you don't get sunburn.

Oh I would, but my Mom likes to take the boys out to jump waves. And I'm not really assertive enough to say, "Um, sharks...fear..."

OIDK Losty, but I don't wear it because it feels greasy on my skin and I can't stand the smell.  I'm not sure that's super manly, but there it is..it's just icky.
