Rough Week for the Orlando Chamber of Commerce
#61
RE: Rough Week for the Orlando Chamber of Commerce
The news this morning said there were "no swimming" signs.

I was at a local park a few days ago with big "NO FEEDING THE WILDLIFE" signs next to a duck pond (Wonder Bread isn't good duck chow) and there was a family standing directly next to a sign feeding the ducks bread. Sheer stupidity.

Well....I feel really bad for these people still but I also think they're kind of stupid. I want to slap them and hug them. Ugh

No swimming signs, in fl..btw, often have pictures of gators or sharks or stingrays or snakes or little stick and circle people drowning in rip tides on them..if anyone thought that "no swimming" was too ambiguous.

I was talking with Hammy the other day and had to run off to grab these kids at the park who went right up to the pond by the sign that says "dont feed the gators" with a picture of a man swimming and and X over him. The mother was reading a book.

Blah. Humans suck sometimes.

I blame the mother tbh. Kids don't sense danger like that even put right in front of them.

No zoo guards to shoot the animals dead out there either.

Parents should certainly be careful and attentive and aware of danger. I don't even think those kids were old enough to read and they were playing so even if they could they wouldn't have.

I take my daughter to public pools a lot and there are always parents staring at their cell phones instead of paying attention to their kid in the water. A few times I've kept a side-eye on a kid because no one else was. There are lifeguards but a parent is - or should be - the first line of defense against danger.

The Aransas Wildlife Refuge is basically a 12-mile long one lane/one way winding road through the wild. They have some 'corralled' areas to pull off to the side. One of the DON'T DO signs is about feeding the wild animals, but they do and the gators know it. They come up snapping for those bread slices. If one cannot keep their kid from traversing bushes, fencing and cliffs, then this is definitely not the place to be.

It is a great place for bird watching. Gotta get outta the car for that if you are a picture taker.

Is this in south Florida? We are traveling light to Miami Beach next week but I'm packing our binoculars for bird-watching.  Smile

Edit to add: Darn, looks like it's in Texas! Sad
