Equal Pay? Not in Kansas

RE: Equal Pay? Not in Kansas
Although I'm not otherwise a fan of them, I think unions come close to this as well. I'm an east coast liberal transplant living in exile in the midwest where EVERYONE is conservative. The subject of equal pay for women came up between myself and my office mate one day. He said he believed it was completely made up and that women are by and large paid the same. I asked him for examples to prove his position. He cited several blue collar positions that are abundant within a mile of our office such as forklift operators at company X, yard switcher at company Y and other logistics related tasks for various companies in our area. All of those are union positions at automotive related companies.

And I have to admit that from his perspective, he was correct. If you're doing a blue collar job in a union shop, your pay is dictated by the contract and gender does no generally enter into it.
I quickly pointed out to him that those jobs were the exception and not the rule, but I'm not sure it got through. He knows and believes what he's seen and blue collar union jobs are most of what he's seen all his life.

I didn't include union pay rates because they vary from location to location.  Military pay rates are the same everywhere, augmented by extra pay for special duties.  Military pay rates are the only true equal pay for equal work jobs in the country.

No, it's not, but more importantly, it's illegal.  I get that you think slavery and exploitation was real swell, but who cares what you think?  Wink

are you really that stupid or are you just trying to get on my good side by providing me opportunities to lampoon you for not seeing the bigger point?

If you are really that stupid then if it make your bleeding heart feel better move the decimal point over two spaces and pay your broom pusher 100.00 a day then the other 125... Either way the point goes unchanged.

I don't see a problem with paying one broom pusher 100 and one broom pusher 125.  That you think you're -capable- of lampooning anyone from your lofty perch on this issue tickles me.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

so that beggs the question how do you tell a 300 dollar week broom pusher that he is not smart/skilled enough to make what the top guy makes?

...

Begging the question is a logical fallacy in which what is to be proved by an argument is assumed in the premises. I think you mean "raises the question."

[/pet peeve]

begging the question also has a mordern/secondary defination as well:

Modern usage

Many English speakers use beg the question to mean "bear the question", "raise the question", "evade the question", or even "ignore the question", and follow that phrase with the question, for example: "I weigh 120 kg and have severely clogged arteries, which begs the question: why have I not started exercising?" In philosophical, logical, grammatical, and legal contexts, some commenters believe that such usage is mistaken, or at best, unclear.[1][25][26][27]

Bigger pet peeve: Correcting someone when you yourself are ill informed to make such a correction.

Frankly, I don't think you know what that word means.
