UK to leave EU

I don't consider her fascist. I consider Trump a genuine fascist. I class May as Authoritarian. Not that one is any better than the other. But May has always been part of the establishment whereas Trump was an outsider and took over the establishment.

Trump has always been part of the establishment too. Not the political one, but the establishment nonetheless. Guy was born with the silver spoon in his mouth. What he made of that and what he did or didn't achieve under his own steam, is a different matter. But same as May, he wouldn't know or care about the concerns of workers. What he said during his campaign are just talking points and lip service. Nothing more. And he formed the cabinet to show it.

There's a reason why she fought teeth and claws not to put it before parliament at all. They obviously were aware of being on very shaky ground.

There's plenty of info out there. Have a google of recent and proposed increases of police power including utilisation of 'snoopers' data, greater stop & search powers, arrest and imprisonment of peaceful protesters. Also read her interviews and examine her language, they betray her mediagenics.

I get where you're coming from and I'm sure she wouldn't consider herself a fascist either however when you examine her methods, they're the same as those used by fascists with results that are favoured by fascists.

This is May's Britain. I remember reading about this as it was happening and she was still on the flight to Singapore unaware that her plight was being reported on.

I was forcibly deported from the UK like a terrorist, restrained and under guard

Quote:Last Sunday I was forced on to a flight to Singapore by four border officers without warning. They gave me just minutes to say goodbye to the family and life I have built over decades.

My husband, John, who I help care for, is a British citizen. I have British children and a grandchild. If I can be taken away from my home in a County Durham village to a detention centre in Scotland overnight, and then spirited out of the country on a Sunday when there was no access to legal advice, what chance does anyone else have?

German neuroscientist also told to leave UK after residency rejection

Quote:He said he had a similar experience at the hands of the Home Office to Hawkins, a Dutch woman who was told to make preparations to leave the UK after she applied for British citizenship following the EU referendum. This was despite her living in the UK for 24 years and having two children with her British husband.

Schwarzkopf said: “I am a German citizen who moved to the UK in 1999 to study neuroscience at Cardiff University, both my undergraduate degree and my PhD. After I got my PhD in 2007, I decided to remain in the UK to work. I am now married to a British woman and am a faculty member at University College London.

It is no secret that I am not a big fan of Nicola Sturgeon, and I have even said ridiculous things like the Scottish Parliament should be abolished (mainly out of anger, it was never a serious view of mine) but May needs to tread carefully and start taking Scotland's concerns seriously or the only alternative is that people like myself will switch sides.

I was very strongly in favour of Brexit although that weakened over time as did my faith in Westminster when I eventually realised that they had no real plan at all. That's not to say that I am siding with remain, I still lean slightly towards Brexit at the moment but everything is just one big mess and A50 hasn't even been triggered yet. Ugh.

Maybe I am overreacting...I don't know anymore.

Quote:Theresa May will make it clear to Nicola Sturgeon that Britain will become “a more united nation” outside the EU as the two women meet two days before the formal Brexit process is triggered.

The Prime Minister will describe the Union as an “unstoppable force” whose strength will be “even more important” during the Brexit negotiations.

The Prime Minister - who will trigger Article 50 on Wednesday - will travel to Glasgow today where she will meet the First Minister and tell her face to face that there will be no new Scottish independence referendum before Brexit.

Sturgeon is just grandstanding, we're getting similar rhetoric from Plaid despite the fact that Wales voted leave, just because the media pays more attention to Sturgeon doesn't make her position qualitatively different.
As for a plan, I'd agree that more clarity would be helpful though I suspect the Cabinet has problems developing a united position, to that extent heads need knocking together.

Right, the politicians in Wales obviously aren't representing the majority of the Welsh voters and that is wrong. But at least the SNP are representing the majority of Scottish voters, as much as I disagree with them at times.

I have a bit of respect for Sturgeon because she continues to go against the British establishment despite all the shit she gets for it. I certainly wouldn't vote for her or her party though.

As for the plan, you're damn right more clarity would be helpful. They better come to a United position pretty fucking soon because A50 is being triggered in two days.
