For that matter what are the odds that Scotland, N. Ireland and Wales will bail on Britain?

Going by the polls, quite real for Scotland, unlikely for Northern Ireland, mostly because of the majority population there and unlikely for Wales, since they have voted leave anyway.

Now that Cameron has resigned, what are the odds that Boris Johnson will be the new leader of the Conservative party and therefore Prime Minister? I've predicted that for several years now, but I never thought it would happen in this way. Boris is generally well-liked by his party, and he's just won a major political victory.

I'd say they just get significantly more likely.  Scotland wasn't too far off last time they voted on independence (55/45 I believe).  Now that Britain has voted to pull them out of the EU, that might be the straw that broke the camels back.

Well you see...Americans love wars and riots and guns...especially when we don't have to deal with the fall out, but even when we do...we can always blame the Muslims....

I see Scotland being smart enough to make the right choice this time around.

There is, actually, but it's somewhat unconventional. The idea, just like referendum, or direct democracy comes from ancient Athens - basically it's lottery, instead of election/nomination of government officials. Kind of like jury duty - a bit of pain in the a** perhaps, but if selected - you have to go and be a politician for a certain number of years.

That way you eliminate careering politicians and the influence of money on political process (probably not entirely, as there would still be lobbyists, but without possibility of legal donations to politicians' campaigns, they'd face an uphill struggle).

Of course - that would NEVER work...
