You don't need to - with that CPU, it's very unlikely it came with anything other than Intel integrated graphics.
It did indeed come with Intel. I actually went and installed the Intel driver update utility installer today. Apparently, my drivers were version 10. and the latest ones were version 21. Again, hoping this would have solved the issue, it did not help.

That would be *a* fix, I'm not sure it's *the* fix, though.
I personally consider 8GB to be about the minimum useful memory for Windows 7 and up. I'm pretty particular, though.

1. Install a 16bit texture pack.
2. Set your video options to their lowest setting, render distance to 1.
3. Load a clean creative superflat on easy with no npc villages.
4. Hit F3, wait a few seconds for the graph to get some ridges, take a screenshot.

Okay... so an additional 4GB of ram. You wouldn't happen to know how much that would cost me, would you? Just a round about figure.

Don't kill me for asking... but how do I install a texture pack?
All I've ever known how to do is play the modded version through either Technic Launcher or through ATLauncher.

(you may not be able to manually install a texturepack depending on your client version and mods, don;t worry about it, just set everything to low on a superflat - and I'd highly recomend FTB over Technic)

Evidently, texture packs are now called resource packs (as of version 1.6)
Reading up on how to do this now.

The idea is to reduce the load on your cpu, particularly in light of integrated graphics...so you can at least get it running well enough to work on it. Then it;s an issue of picking which mods out of the pack you most enjoy running, and running the smallest number of mods possible.
