I was thinking maybe Tibs could change the thingy at the top from saying 'our server costs $25 a month to run...' to something like 'our server is funded for the next x months... please consider donating...' so that we'd know when to top it up as it were Maybe that banner could even be done programmatically somehow... I don't know if that's feasible.
Yea, that's not even accurate because it's $30 a month now. I don't know if he'll do that, he might. I was just saying with the quarterly donation drives. I will be making a thread once every 3 months for donations. It will be fun and exciting and there will be a goal meter showing how much is needed and how much has been donated. This is new project but I assure you that more information is coming. I'm actually really excited about this because it gives us a chance to come together as a community and support the forum. If we successfully meet goals every quarter it means that we will be bound only by laws and our own forum values and not by the standards of any outside sources. Also, it should be a very easy goal to make with as many active members as we have. Anyways, more information is coming soon

Yeah. I said it. And I don't care. ALL of the staff here do a tremendous job at making things run smoothly here. They work hard and don't get paid a red cent to do any of it. And now, because of the direction that one stinkin thread took, we now have this. More limitations than what we had before. And what we had before wasn't an issue for over 9000 other members. So ain't that some crap.
Who said it was because of that one particular member? If this was the case, then the rule change (if it even is a change, I don't know) would've been different.
Well.... look at what happened. It very well could have been a chain of events that set things in motion. Had that thread not been started, bennyboy wouldn't have felt the need to post child porn and most likely Google AdSense probably wouldn't have been alerted because nothing was necessitating a change until that thread was started. Anyone can see that the upheaval didn't start until after that thread got out of hand.
Obviously only staff see what goes on behind the curtain. But I have enough brains to see that that thread and some of it's contents (thankfully now removed) are most likely the culprit. Either that or it's extremely coincidental what with the timing and all. And really, I don't believe in coincidences.

Rhythm's avatar clearly depicts a sex act, although in cartoon form. I find it vulgar and juvenile, but not necessarily obscene. (I wouldn't what to try to explain it to my nephews though.) At the same time, if the rule is to be applied consistently...

I keep trying to get him to start a Patreon. Whatever the server costs are could be split across all of the patrons. If there are, say 20 patrons, and the server costs $30/month, that would be $1.50/month for each patron.

So, is my avatar ok? Sorry to harp on it, but I really like it, and I don't want staff wrath over it!

As far as I'm aware, Patreon donations count as income, so we would have to raise $50 a month to cover taxes.
The advantage of straight donations to my PayPal is that they count as individual "gifts" and aren't taxable.
I've created a Patreon page but the quarterly donation push might be a better option. We could always set up both.

People could do either or. In my experience, if people have to do something like this monthly or quarterly at higher amounts, they're less likely to do it.
Even at $50 with 20 patrons, that's only $2.50 a month.
