Linux is something that always sounds excellent that I have never ever been able to get working.
It seems like I have to be an expert computer programmer to install it.
Years ago I couldn't for the life of me work out how to get Ubuntu to work.
If I could install Linux easily I would very happily do it. I don't even play games anymore really, I only listen to music, watch YT and use AF. So I would very very much like Linux if I could actually get it working.
Nowadays, the major linux distributions, like Ubuntu and Fedora, are install friendly.... Just hit next, next, next, next, for the most part...
Of course, many of the programs in there and the paths for the drives and stuff are completely different from what you're used to in windows, so there IS a learning curve.... but nothing your AF buddies can't help out with!

Is it reversible? Can I uninstall it easily if I don't like it or if the install doesn't work properly?
IOW: Am I definitely not going to fuck up my laptop and void my 2 year warranty?

My plan:
1. Get the updates to 100% without them fucking failing like a bunch of shit.
2. Update to Windows 8.1 like I managed to get Windows 8 to do once before, without it failing like a bunch of shit.
3. Download Windows 10 before the free upgrade offer ends on the 29th of this month and before Shitty Windows 8.1 decides to fail the next Windows Update and get in a restart, update fail, restart, update fail, loop forcing me to revert to Windows 8 again, like a bunch of shit.
4. Hope Windows 10 actually downloads without failing to update like a bunch of shit.
Less bunches of shit please, Microsoft, less bunches of shit.

It's an Operating System.
You don't just uninstall it.... you remove it and install some other in its place, like Windows.... so, you'd need a windows disc or usb stick to reinstall windows and remove any other OS.

That question is the source of much internet enmity.
From what I've seen, Ubuntu is more noob friendly.
Fedora has a major upgrade every 6 months, given that it's a development version for the retail RedHat linux. I use Fedora at work, because it's the one that's used by mos other systems around me.
But, when I search for something linux related, most results I get are for Ubuntu.
If you do go down that path, remember that the linux distro is not defined by the "desktop environment" you get presented with (that's the look and feel of the windows and menus).
Both Ubuntu and Fedora will try to push Gnome on you. I'm using KDE because it looks a bit more like what I'm used to, from windows.
There are tons of different desktop environments for linux, some are built for specific distros and have been ported to other distros, like Cinnamon.
The thing about linux is that it has a bunch of configurable stuff... and, if you have the time, you can try different things to see which suits you best

Linux Mint is the easiest installing distro I've ever used. I will never use Ubuntu again.
You can make it look just like Windows, or even OSx, or pretty much anything. It's super easy to use, and if you don't use the laptop for gaming I would recommend trying to get windows 10 going, and if you don't like it, go with linux mint.
The only thing that takes a bit getting used to is how much you have to enter in your password!

It's a beauty... but didn't work very well on my fedora 20... Maybe I'll give it another try when I upgrade to fedora 24...

Cinnamon is a Fedora port, whereas it was developed for Mint. Might try installing Mint instead of Fedora...
