Something I never understood in relation to Thespians?

When in character they seem like chameleons, sometimes dickensian, other times orwellian, but usually pedestrian but always Machiavellian?

A little overdramatic but very good nonetheless.
I'm a big fan of Willem Dafoe, William Hurt and lately Jake Gyllenhaal! (and you can't forget James Woods)
