You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by offering up an authentic prayer. Call it a experiment. If you think it doesn't work , fine. Otherwise, placebos sometimes work. At worst you are giving her and yourself a sugar pill.

I probably would fake pray anyhow. It seems like a dying wish. Might as well.

We as atheists do tons of "religious" shit just to get by in society: Saying Merry Christmas, passively nodding to conversations about God or his creations, not openly criticizing the Church, playing along to the unintelligent nonsense theological babble of a Muslim friend (Women should stay at home, gays should be discouraged, etc etc).... so why not this?
