Young earth creationism is a special kind of stupid. Like, it's the gold medal performance at the Stupid Olympics. The gall to simply ignore geology, paleontology, astronomy... it's pretty amazing.

Run of the mill creationism gets special marks for its insidiousness, however. That its proponents have even convinced people that there's a controversy is astounding. But, Wizard's 1st Rule (which is likely the only thing I agree with Goodkind on).

Religion has 2 purposes, neither of which requires evidence, accuracy or consistency.
1) It forms stupid persons in a population into groups which gives them resources to compete with other groups.
2) It gives the smarter ones among them a work-free gig as clerics who then can direct their group to trash other groups.

Actually, evidence is harmful to these purposes as it is generally available to everyone for examination and might interfere with group preconceptions (like, 'we're God's number one people.')
So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat? Huh

What I can't understand is that so many Christians supposedly communicate with Jesus/Yahweh, yet they can't even agree on whether the very first book in the bible is literal or metaphorical. Why are they being told different things?

People don't acknowledge the modern bible is a forgery and the original bible was the "Ingel."

The reason the ingel got forged because people saw through it.
