Debating on the Internet for years will do that for you. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that if you spend the time crafting an argument that covers every aspect of your point in detail whilst also being succinct and easy to understand, you'll find less people will misinterpret your words and will actually be able to focus on their objections.

Tibs, I'm able to do it, I just have to make myself give enough of a damn first. Thanks for your insight, though, I'm sure others will find it very helpful.

Edit: What I mean is not that I'm great at it, but that I, for one, am certainly able to post a lot more eloquently and clearly than I usually do, I just don't find the motivation to do it. Here's hoping I'll find some more of it in the future.

That's silly. You don't owe anyone an apology. If someone means something they should state it in an at least somewhat comprehensible way. The op, to me, was fine. Ark said things like "she may as well blame the sun for burning her skin". There's no amount of twisting that can make a statement like that acceptable in reference to a rape victim.

He worded it badly. I believe his intentions are fine, though. That's just MO.

I believe he should be faulted for his phrasing, not for his points, though, if one can see them despite the confusing way he made them.

You're an incredible debater and writer. You always have been on AF and you've only gotten better at it.

Anyone who says that should be faulted for being a jerk regardless of their intentions but that's just my opinion.

Yeesh; I must have missed picking that colorful analogy out of Ark's typical textwall ramble-style posting, lol.

Or wait...is that a metaphor?  Which one uses "like or as"??  EP, I NEED YOU!

That's an analogy.

A metaphor is being used when a word or phrase is cleverly employed to describe something semantically disconnected from it by drawing attention to those of its characteristics that make it relevant to the thing being described.  . The sky within your eyes is boundless and haunting would be an example.

The metaphor contains an implicit comparison between two things - it hides the "right" one and it transposes the sham over it. An analogy does the comparison explicitly, by pointing out both things being compared for the purpose of better clarifying the properties of one. Where metaphors are aesthetic and subtle, analogies are plain and informative.

It's a simile.

I'm dumber. I forgot that was even one of the options. [emoji14]

I've been meaning to ask this, what made you want to set up AF? I mean there's already a couple of atheist-orientated forums out there from what I have seen.

Did you fall out with management on the other sites or something?
