Why the heart? Any other parts of the anatomy ever hold interest?

Other parts, yes (but that's for A69).
Originally I was going to get into oncology, but on my way back from an interview at my med school I was in a motorbike accident and, unexpectedly, my heart stopped. Turns out I had a weak heart and the shock of several broken bones made it stop,.
So, I decided on cardiology for somewhat selfish reasons.

So, yeah, you have an intimate connection with it. I had never thought too hard about being a surgeon (though another person with spina bifida is indeed a neurosurgeon, and I believe director of neurosurgery at the University of Michigan). But I admit, I do find the spine and brain pretty fascinating.
In the mid-oughts, I made a friend who eventually had a lung transplant for cystic fibrosis. Ever done a heart tx (if you wish to go there)?
