It's a good thing I have no faith in gid either.

Hindu religion is for very compassionate individuals. It takea alot of stress endurance to live by this stuff.

For example, something bad happens. Answer: its your fault, its your karma, so, dont be angry, its basically YOUR fault, you just done mistakes in previous life which you dont remember, but believe me, rule of karma exists.

And worship God or you will suffer in this lifetime for abandoning faith in the pure goodness that is Gods will.

When I heard about those main points of yoga, I couldn't even imagine to live by them.

You know, I can relate. Not on the guilty part but on the dog part. I try to be a decent person. That's how I was brought up. So if there was any god worth his money, he certainly would take that into account. More so than going through the motions.

If there was a vengeful beast, like some of our users seem to believe, the motions might get you some brownie points. But such a being wouldn't be worth worshipping, wouldn't it?
Its so true like I too was raised to believe that do good and good things will happen to you.. IM dog was my soulmate.. its ridiculous I know but its true.. She was just a baby.. 2 years old.. some complications with her surgery and boom she had a stroke and she died..

Somehow I felt its my fault.. cz it was me who wanted to get that surgery.. I dont really think that god exists.. otherwise how come bad people thrive and good people suffer..

Anyone ever explain to you how that's supposed to work (or why it can work no other way...why, without prayer, there is no peace?), or did they leave it at the status of a  "just so" story?

No one ever explained anything to me .. hindus believe that god is actually looking don on us.. watching and deciding whether we go to hell or to heaven.. bull shit.. some ppl say that the moment they enter a temple, they find eace.. I have been to thousands of temples and I have never felt anything diff than what I normally feel.. I mean some idols are there and tthey always have a crazy story about how these idols were actually given to them through their dreams and stuff.. really it is all so artificial..

people donate thousands of money and food and other stuff to idols when the dogs outside the temple look upon.. I mean its outrageous and ridiculous..

people in India pay lakhs of money to pour  milk on the idols of Lord shiva thinking that he will actually drink those.. ufhhh the idiocracy..

The only advice I might try and give you is to look at your religious teachings for the philosophical meanings. Strip out the gods and the magic, and try and find the things about it that do help.  Perhaps it teaches focus on family, forgiveness, or other ways to try and lead a happier and more fulfilled life.  This may allow you to retain your own thoughts, like lack of belief in those supernatural things, but also not lose your family or get into trouble.

Best wishes to you!!

Yes thank you so much Rolleyes .. I do try to do that always.. I pay more attention to living beings than idols

Don't feel guilty, just feel different.

Condolences for your loss. It certainly would be easier if dogs had a longer life span.

She was just a baby.. 2 years of age.. and she was my soulmate..

I do feel different.. In like most of the things I always find myself thinking differently..

No one to support me though..

HAHA yes hinduism is for very traditional people.. who believe what they read in Gita and Mahabharata..

Karma is again a very confusing thing.. I really dont know that any proof is there that it exists..

Why do you need a god to be good and honest? Or a god to be happy?

You may be better off rejecting the programming and make your life happy on your own, in your own way.

No gid came and told me to be honest or good.. No god has made me happy..

My dogs make me happy.. reading books make me happy.. Infact if I try to follow the rules and instructions stated in the religious books then trust me I will never be happy..

Welcome to the forum, Monalisa!

You don't have to be careful not to offend anyone here, just don't worry if you should get angry responses when someone is offended, that's normal. It's merely here in the Introductions section that we have restricted rules demanding that everyone be friendly. If you want a controversial discussion, you are very welcome to start a thread e.g. in the religion section if you haven't done so already.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

I Think you should be Good and honest.. But that's Got nothing to do with a God or Gods or Whatever imaginary idea like that.
You should be Good and honest because it will probably make other people treat you the same...

Hi, firstly I want to say thank u so much for welcoming me here. It feels so good to finally be able to talk about what I have been feeling for years..I am married and my entire family is so orthodox..They do puja everyday after bath and I keep staring pretending to pay my respects or so when actually I think about something else...

Welcome to the forum, Monalisa. I hope you like it here.

For many years I believed it though.. I always did what is right and before doing anything bad I always used to pray to god and say sorry n stuff.. But all of that is a lie because to be frank I do not believe it..

Hindus have a lot of deities and we have several occasions where we sit around the idol of that deity and give him food and stuff and chant mantras .. I have noticed my entire family just keep their eyes closed and they somehow seem to be so engrossed .. I tried that too.. did not work..

Sometimes I feel so guilty.. Maybe I am wrong..

Just recently I lost my dog.. and people say that if you pray to god n be good then he listens to you..

That is not true.. Sometimes I feel that if I talk about this with my husband or someone else, they will feel that I am a freak bcz as a Hindu it is actually a crime..

You're not alone. It can be very difficult to break with a viewpoint you were raised to believe and which everyone around you seems to take for granted as true; whether you're Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, or whatever. You have a right, even if those around you don't recognize it, to freedom of conscience; to believe what you are convinced of and to not believe what doesn't convince you. It's a precious right, but sometimes we're in a situation where we have to keep our difference of opinion to ourselves. That's one of the reasons places like this exist.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
