Praying to gods won't make your dog immortal, nor will it make human beings immortal. It wont make you happy, it won't "bless" you.. because there's no such thing as being blessed.
At best, the mortality of your dog tells you that the silly stories people tell -about- gods are prayer are bullshit...but it;s probably not a good argument against a god. Just a word of caution...since poor arguments are easily overcome, and being raised a religious person if anyone pointed this out to you you'd probably just go back to prostrating yourself in front of mass produced idols or worrying that there was something "wrong" with you for not being able to fully devote yourself to the same.

Condolences for your loss. It certainly would be easier if dogs had a longer life span.

Welcome! Make yourself at home. Feel free to talk about your skepticism as much as you like. Let it sink in. It's a tough thing to be a skeptic in the middle of a bunch of religious folks, but it seems to me that at this point, you won't be a devout believer again any time soon. Glad to have you here

no one is immortal.. its just that from the very beginning my maa n dad taught me how to pray.. and it kind of became a habit.. but it never felt right or logical.. we somehow depended on these idols and pictures to give us support .. the truth is no one can give us support but ourselves.. my in laws are my house half f the time and they are very irritated with my nature.. they think that i behave outrageously and very non-hindu like.. but i have decided that i will not let anyone take away my identity or what i believe in..

Anyone ever explain to you how that's supposed to work (or why it can work no other way...why, without prayer, there is no peace?), or did they leave it at the status of a "just so" story?

No just when she died we are all in so much pain.. My mom said that if we all pray to GOD then somehow she will rest in peace..
I thought that is rubbish and just stopped thinking that anything can actually make her rest in peace..
Somehow I felt that I killed her.. its a long story.. just havent found peace yet and I dont think an imaginary entity can actually help me
