I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I'll ask it again. Why, in the US, do christians all seem to be gun-loving right wingers, whilst in the UK the popular image of a christian is a lilly livered left winger beating their breast about social justice for the poor (a bit like Jesus?).

Maybe the christians in Europe have gone back to following Christ instead of trying to run the government and other institutions.  Also, Americans have always had a love affair with guns, as opposed to Europe, and have always been suspicious of government.  Guns are a sign of our independence. Christians tend to be more conservative in most ways than non-christians and are more prone to hold on to American traditions.

They're not, as has been claimed, more likely to "hold on to american traditions"...whatever that's supposed to mean, than anyone else.  

I think he's referring to denying minorities and homosexuals their rights. That's a time-honored tradition they like to hold onto.
