I think this is the least true thing that has ever been typed by anyone ever.

Ever hear of the phrase "vote with your dollar"?

If the bakers had won their appeal, I had plans to go back and open a clothing shop wherein I would refuse to sell jeans to Christians, shoes to Muslims or hats to Jews.
Immediately thereafter, I would collect the fire insurance and get me arse back to a sensible county.

There are things that are illegal to discriminate on the basis of, and one of those is sexual orientation. I wish it weren't so. I wish we lived in a world were people weren't horrid to each other for arbitrary reasons, but it seems some people have to be forced to play nice.

What the appeal court ruled was that if a) Ashers were to provide a certain service to some people they could not refuse to provide the same service to others based on their beliefs, and b) once they entered into the contract to bake the cake it was wrong for them to back out on religious grounds.
Ashers are perfectly welcome to refuse to serve people who want homophilic messages on their cakes,
provided they will agree to not also serve those who want homophobic messages on their cakes (something Ashers bakery is not willing to do).

What if the customer is the Aryan Nation? You are saying that a printer cannot refuse to print their pamphlets.
In that case they report the persons to the cops under the relevant incitement to hatred laws. Free speech isn't absolute in the UK.

As someone who is both a passionate baker and not heterosexual I'd bake myself the damn cake, but hell will freeze over first before I get married.

I've heard the compromise before where the customer gets given the relevant equipment and writes their own message on the cake as part of the process. The baker then doesn't have to worry about going to hell or whatever. Although seeing as they didn't stone the gay couple to death, they're going there anyway.

Citing religious beliefs in these matters should raise in at least some folks the question of where the line is on that. Can Pastafarian's cite religious beliefs for not serving something at a restaurant that clashes with Italian cuisine?
It will put the state in the position of 'validating' a belief system as worthy of this additional level of protection . . .
Hmmm, I think putting it that way kinda clinches things there, don't it ?
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
