I'm openly atheist -- so much so that I'm kind of known at work as the 'village atheist'. Everyone in my family, and most of my acquaintances, are well aware of my disdain for adults with imaginary friends. Some like to debate but most just keep silent about it when I'm around, which is fine with me.

I'm completely open about my atheism to absolutely everyone.
I don't tell folks I'm an atheist unless anyone asks though. There's no reason to. I don't identify with my atheism. If anyone asks if I believe in God I'll say "no", if they ask if I'm an atheist I'll say "yes". I don't really need to say "hey I'm an atheist!" to anyone that would be obnoxious. But I am indeed completely 100% open to everyone about my atheism.

I work in a school and it's a non-issue, which is fine by me.
I don't "advertise" it, and I can't remember ever explictly mentioning I'm an atheist.

I'm very open with my Atheism. I tell it everything. There are no secrets between us.

I was very open about being in the ACLU when I worked for the defense contactor. I wasn't open about being gay there however, especially with Robert Bork (IANMTU) on the board of directors.
I would have been open about the AIDS Buddy program except that the people running the program (rightly) decided everything that happen there, and who it happened to, was absolutely secret. And at the time with people being fired, rendered homeless, losing insurance, that was a wise choice. One of my charges called me at work.
Frequently.
I wasn't always available, so the departmental secretary would take a message. That lady would have shit her bloomers to know she was talking to [redacted], as that women I was assisting wound up on the front page of the newspaper, more than once. And not for something nice.
My family members knew when I switched to Unitarian/Universalist, but that was a way point on the journey, as they say. I haven't voiced too much about the voyage onward.
When the defense contractor wanted to get in my shorts over the fucking security clearance thing, I sent a note to the Security Director declining to be processed for it, and without giving a reason. Even with that kind of pressure (that was not a good career move as you may have gathered) I can keep a secret, especially from people that might want to fuck with my friends.

Around here, it being a rural area, half the people around are related to me some how, and small towns abound, it's a little harder to rock the boat than it was when I lived near Chicago.
Heck, back in the day, I marched in the '79 Gay Pride Parade and was AMAZED the crowd was over 250,000. Stonewall +10 years, and look where we were! And at less than Stonewall +50, we have the SCOTUS approving gay marriage.
I also marched in the late 80s under an ACLU banner, even took some cat calls from the crowd (YOU DEFEND PORNOGRAPHERS!, and I yelled back AND WE WILL DEFEND YOU TOO !!)
I've noted before attending a gay rally in Dubuque Iowa (!) in the 80s, arriving at the site early and realize the cops are sweeping the area for bombs. Makes you stop and think for a moment . . . .

I have. Ever been told "God blesses you" by a complete stranger?
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
