See, this is the thing pissing me off most about some religious people. Their own admission of nothing holding them back if there was no god and no afterlife. So you, like some before you, would be the perfect asshole. The only thing keeping you from graduating to become the next Ted Bundy is your religious fears.

I doubt he meant anything like hurting ppl or being a jerk even. He was probably referring to stuff that society considers normal but that Christians should try to avoid - like casual sex, porn viewing, etc.

So let him explain what he meant.

The pissing off part is about some people constantly asking what keeps us from going out murdering others. Without seeing the irony and how that reflects on their own personality. The only possible conclusion is that being afraid of their imaginary friend is the only thing keeping them in check.

Personally I would not kill anyone if God told me to. Here's why. The God that I believe exists is the God of love and goodness. Like, he literally IS love. It would be against his very nature to want me to kill my child because killing children is just about the most evil thing you can do. If God wanted me to do that, my whole reality would be turned upside down completely.

That would be a rather shallow, overly simplified version of the answer, but it isn't the incorrect answer according to our beliefs.

God created natural law, which is consistent with his nature. His nature is love. Murder goes against natural law. It goes against the way our world was designed to work and against the way we were designed to feel, which is empathy for our fellow humans.

I'd think the criteria for evaluating a 'kill order' from God might depend on who's in the cross hairs.

An Amalekite wouldn't merit much compassion. A Samaritan rather more.
